I’m hoping to head to Silverstone for the F1 GP this year or next. Would be great hear any recommendations of which campsites are good and which to avoid. Probably just me and my 15yr old son in the Cali, if he remains keen, otherwise just me.
Thanks.

I’ve booked cartmel fields, through Silverstone website for this year. I’ve not been before and was difficult to stomach the cost but I wanted to be close to the circuit for the full weekend. The reviews look decent for it too. I would be surprised if you could get camping tickets this year as I was told they sell out fast, but I could be wrong. Really looking forward to it, I’ve been to spa and Suzuka in the past, both were great but I would highly recommend spa, lots of camping spots right at the track and the atmosphere is great!

We have camped several times and have tried woodland, Hamilton fields and windmill farm.

They are all very similar be prepared to take some ear plugs for a better night sleep as most have live music and people can be noisy.

I’ve given some pros and cons of the site we went to.

Woodland
Pros- is the closest to the circuit and has a lively and quiet area, the quiet area still was quite loud but it was literally a five minute walk straight into the circuit,

Cons - toilets and showers are quite a long walk from some pitches and the ques for them got long and they where quite grim at times. Leaving was a nightmare and not organised at all and it took hours to get out on Monday.

Hamilton fields
Pros- better run site and less ques for toilets, pitches marked out better and toilets cleaned more regularly. Leaving was fine no ques to get out.

Cons - was about a 30 minute walk to the Silverstone track but there was a shuttle bus but we didn’t use it as didn’t mind the walk. Also wasn’t any pot washing area when we went.

Windmill farm
Pros - about 15-20 minute walk into the track depending where your pitch is, the one plus was this campsite didn’t need to be booked for the Thursday to Monday and so we where able to book Friday to Sunday which was a lot cheaper. Leaving was fine no ques to get out.

Cons- the overflow camp site we ended up on was very close to the main dual carriage way and was very loud but the main site would have been ok but we arrived late on the Friday so didn’t get into the main site.

This is great info, thank you. All the official Silverstone sites are booked up for this year as is Woodlands. But I like the sounds of Hamilton Fields , and there’s a site called Dadford Road that sounds ok and has availability too.
There is entertainment advertised in various places, bands etc., in the evenings - do you know if that is focussed at the circuit or put on at individual campsites?

There’s always entertain at the circuit and it’s normally pretty good, last year we watched rudimental on the main stage in the evening after Hamilton won on the Sunday and there’s a different act on each evening.

The big campsites also have there own entertainment, I remember it being quite techno/dancie sounding at woodlands and more band like at Hamilton fields.

We camped at Dadford Road last year. I would recommend it for a number of reasons. They are very laid back and friendly - there is one price for any type of unit, to keep it simple. They do not restrict size of pitch, so if you want some space, take some kind of barrier - poles and tape work fine. It is not very flat in parts, so best to arrive early so as to get some choice. If you want EHU, you will be a very long way from the circuit, but if you can do without (we have solar) it will be a 10/15 min walk from the Club corner entrance, which is very convenient. We arrived on the Tuesday, which admittedly was a bit early, but had plenty of choice of where to set up. It is a quiet site - no techno keeping you awake, and has no catering facilities except one burger van, which is only open on event days. The toilets / showers are basic, but I would rate as good given the size of the event, and are cleaned often. Never experienced queues. 1st photo was Tuesday, 2nd Thursday.
