We’re off to the F1 at Silverstone next weekend. We’re camping at the Dadford Road campsite - never been before. We’ll be arriving on the Tuesday, so should be plenty of choice for pitch positions. Does anyone have any advice on where the best place to pitch up would be? We like quiet, flat, not right by the facilities, but not too far away either, as close to the circuit as possible, but not by major thoroughfares, close to a hedge might be nice! No EHU, as that is apparently at the back of beyond. We have solar, and for sure the sun will shine in the uk in July, so we’ll be ok!!!!

Tips welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah - you always see more on tv, but being there is simply the best. Went to Spa last year, and had a ball despite the constant rain. Also a big golf fan - been to 3 Ryder cups (including Medina!!!) and 2 Solheim cups, plus loads of other events. We just love the atmosphere.

But never been to Silverstone, so looking for tips. Well actually I have been to Silverstone once - an MG meet in 1998 I believe - didn’t camp, but did get to drive a few laps in my MGF!!!

I've been to several races, a couple of World Superbike and two F1 events both times to Austin TX. The first time was for the inaugural race in Austin and I had a great time. The second not so much. Sun was too hot and the view less than ideal. Getting out of these events can be a nightmare. And the cost of the tickets wowzers.....decided to watch on the telly in 4K glory for a far more rewarding experience without all the hassles.
But I hope you have a fun time in Silverstone. I grew up a few miles up the road.

They are not bad for 90 years old!
Were / are you a member of the MG Car Club Luxembourg ? :)
No. I went to one meet, but it was not for me. Sold the F when I needed the money to buy a house, then bought an Elan M100 a few years later. Huge fun, but nightmare for maintenance. Sports cars are past me now - I prefer the Cali!

I remember watching James Hunt win the 1977 Grand Prix there...... me and my mate turned up for the weekend in a '67 1500 Beetle and a tent...... happy days :)

Sorry @Rololux ..... this doesn't help you I know
Where did you camp???

Where did you camp???
oh now you're pushing my memory! just next to the car in the grass car park `i seem to recall...... but it was a long time ago

The good old days when you could just turn up and pay a few pounds for a spot.

First time I went to Glastonbury - 1982 - we got ‘delayed’ at the Stonehenge ‘event’, and arrived at Pilton rather late on the Friday - massive traffic jams, so parked up and slept it off in the back of the pickup we were traveling in. Woke up at 6 in the morning, drove in to the event - paid 10 quid a head cash to get in, drove the pickup down to the Pyramid stage and parked by the hedge on the left. It would have been a great view for Van Morrison on Saturday night - had we been able to stay awake! Sadly we all slept through the whole gig! Happy days!

Always amusing to see the bobble hats wandering around in their merch of choice.

No idea what people do for 4 days before the race?

@Rololux

How was Silverstone?

Do you have recommendations for family friendly Cali camping at both Spa and Silverstone?

Dadford road camping at Silverstone is recommended for families - you’ll not be paying for loud entertainment, or other unnecessaries. If you want EHU you’ll be a very long way from the circuit, but it’s doable. The rest of the site is not overly flat, but if you get there early enough, you’ll be able to find a flattish spot. I like it because they are very relaxed - you can have a pitch as large as you want, as long as you are prepared to mark it out. Facilities are basic, but for an event of this size, I think pretty good.

Spa is a different story - avoid the MAX sites. We were at the yellow area, which is fine, but essentially no facilities except overcrowded portaloos. It’s noisy, but not as noisy as other areas. It’s very basic, but flatish pitches, all very close together. Allow 30 minute walk to the circuit. I much prefer Silverstone as an event.

i am heading to Spanish F1 with my daughter, leaving the van this time tho
