Sliders fitted

Stuff arrived yesterday and got the rails installed pretty quickly. It's a very good kit from Bus-box here in Germany.

Contains all the metalwork and rail mounting hardware. You just need to sort your own base. Not shown are two smaller angle pieces to stop a fridge / Eurocrates / bike pressure washer sliding off the base.

We used to just shove them in the back of our VW Caddy but this is a new Cali so it needs a bit of thought! There is still space in front of the rail for seats. I'm looking longer term for one or two singles. I'm not fighting the bench again.

Plan is to fit the base then a longer "posh plank" type section on top which is removable. This "posh plank" will have a couple of fork mounts for mountain bikes so they can be transported securely inside the van. Longer trips will be with the towbar and Thule rack but local stuff they will be inside. When we lived in the UK, more damage was from road crap and salt than actually riding trails and as a year round biker, we get pretty hard winters.

I'll update when I get the base and plank sorted.

Looking good, slider goods are a great investment. Do you actually have a Beach and not an Ocean as per your profile?

I'm a Englishman living in Germany (Ludwigsburg, not too far from Schwarzwald) with a Beach.

I love how you say “fighting the bench”. Each time we stop overnight it’s a tossup if the bench slides out easily to bed.
I’m not sure if there’s a fix or if time makes it easier
