I'm not saying this but I follow a lot of wild camping forums and Facebook groups and most people are are saying they are heading off wild camping tomorrow ?

Like I say, I have no intention of doing this but a hell of a lot of other people appear to think what Boris said was a free light

That’s how I interpreted it, that we can. Maybe not in Wales or Scotland though?

Not in Scotland as Scottish Government have confirmed. Wild camping will not be allowed for some time and maybe then restricted. Bit of a bummer.

If wild camping is considered a form on exercise, then yes, they can freely do so.

What the PM said - In the correct context is,

"And from this Wednesday, we want to encourage people to take more and even unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise.

You can sit in the sun in your local park, you can drive to other destinations, you can even play sports but only with members of your own household.

You must obey the rules on social distancing and to enforce those rules we will increase the fines for the small minority who break them."

Travel only for exercise ... and there is an increase in fine for those who break the rules. Lockdown is still active.

So you could legitimately drive in to the hills to go hill walking over a weekend.

The comment “drive to other destinations“ was a bit vague. But as last poster says we should still be only travelling if we have to get to work, or for the purpose of reaching a destination for exercise.
So don’t think wild camping is back on the agenda, or a sensible thing to do even if yr socially distant when yr camping.
good luck if you try it, let us know how you get on.

The Fines should be at the same level as they are in Australia .

Divide by 2 to get approximate GBP equivalent.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Health Minister Brad Hazzard has announced a new on the spot fine of $5000 for anyone who spits or coughs on health care workers or police.

There have been a series of incidents where frontline workers have had people spitting and coughing on them, with some people even falsely claiming to have COVID-19.

“How incredibly ridiculous is that, that anybody could think it is acceptable to spit or cough on frontline health care workers, health officials, police,” Mr Hazzard said.

“These frontline workers are caring for us and the simple fact is, we need to care for them, so this on the spot $5000 fine will send a clear message that we are all as one.”

Under an emergency ministerial directive signed by Mr Hazzard, people who leave their home without “reasonable excuse” could be fined up to $11,000 and face six months in jail.

Examples of a “reasonable excuse” include “obtaining food or other goods and services, travelling for the purposes of work or education if the person cannot do it at home, exercise or medical or caring reasons
”.

None of your ponsy £30 fine there.

Correct ... so they are not headed for wild camping. They are headed for hill-walking - a form of exercise, and the exercise is across two days ... and so they have to camp en-route.

... it is all about how you phrase it ;) :)

I think a lot of people will see his comments as a green light.

We have all just watched the PM of the UK making a national broadcast on national tv announcing somewhat ‘mixed messaging’ relaxation of restrictions which relate only to England and make no reference to the fact these do not relate to what is relevant in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. I can assure you travelling in a camper van up here would not be wise and certainly not approved by the Scottish Government. Our main message remains ‘stay at home’!

I wouldn't take too much notice of statutory maximum sentences, either in Oz or UK. They rarely represent actual sentencing practice. And the UK £30 is for a police fixed penalty if that is accepted by the offender, by no means the maximum allowed if it goes to court.

In UK, spitting at an emergency worker with intent (eg "I'm going to give you Covid") will inevitably be treated very seriously in the current circumstances. There have been several such cases through the courts already, with immediate custodial sentences given.

There were a few 11.000 AUS fines handed out on Bondi Beach.

We could have a wild meet in Padstow as long as we trek, each 2m apart, along the SW Coastal Path. 20 of us sitting down in a circle would make a circle of 40m circumference, 13m diameter. How big is @Victor ‘s garden or driveway?

I find that somewhat surprising, it sounds pretty extreme, can you point to any confirmed reports of those?
If this isn’t good enough, you’ll have to do your own search.

My son was stopped at 9pm at night, on his way to work, and threatened with a 2000 AUS fine if he didn’t have a good excuse. He did, as he is an A&E specialist at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney and had been called in as one of the Medical Staff on shift had tested +tve.

So no actual $11,000 fines then. Thought not.

No idea. I have better things to do than search for information on your behalf. I’m sure you are capable of doing that. :thumb

There are a number of Court Cases for Multiple Offenders so no doubt there are some but I’m sure you are more than capable of ferreting them out and if you can’t be bothered then that says a lot. Night, night.

If you consider that 'Stay At Home' still exists as we're still fighting this thing but with the allowance for exercise via car then planned wild camping isnt yet a thing.

My take on it, is that instead of running / walking around the local neighbourhood i can now take the cali to transport my kayak to a local river / canal and not undertake a 2-3 hour trip to the lakes for a weekend away carrying out the 3 lakes challenge despite how socially isolating that maybe.

‘Stay at home‘ has been replaced by ‘stay alert’, only in England though.

My take on it is that Stay at Home is still part of Stay Alert. There are still restrictions in place, the virus is still very much outhere but by all means do your exercise further afield, take your family out for a walk along the beach just dont take the mick and always stay alert to why these restrictions are in place.

Its purely my angle on it.

Holidaying and days away isnt what I read into this at all.

I agree, although it's open to interpretation again. I think the number of motorhomes and campervans starting their engines and packing for a couple of weeks will fire up the Police again to turn people around and hand out fines. Social media will be full of cases within 48 hours I suspect.

The police will only be carrying out enforcement against large gatherings now according to their response to the announcement from Boris.

So, you make a statement that "There were a few 11.000 AUS fines handed out on Bondi Beach.". I say I find that surprising and ask you to cite your sources. It turns out you can't find any, so you then huffily say it's my job to prove you wrong (with your usual passive-aggressive thumbs-up emoticon).

I'm not sure why it would have been so hard simply to acknowledge you were mistaken. We do all make mistakes sometimes.

Innocent until Proven Guilty. Your job to prove I'm guilty, not my job to prove I'm innocent.
