Software gremlins, SOS warning, infotainment system hanging

Same story for me. But had a(nother) software update a few weeks ago and so far so good.

Agree with all the tips:
- for SOS problem go to make a call using the button then cancel it. This reset the SOS problem a few times for me.
- blank infotainment screen or the perpetual “profile loading” prompt I could only fix by disconnecting one lead from the battery, waiting 5-10mins, then reconnecting. This is what VW assist did the first time it happened to me. Not what we should be doing for a new vehicle, but got the infotainment reset and all the other stuff - satnav, radio etc - back too.

Just hoping the last software update really has fixed it!

Well, it's almost 3 months later and a few long trips away, and no more SOS or other infotainment problems. So I think it is fixed - and I hope I am not jinxing it by saying this. Great to know the VW team has got on top of it and sorted it out.

Glad you got it sorted @Guy.M. I have a late 2023 Ocean which seems to be having a lot of the same problems. Hoping an update might fix it but presumably it should already be on a later software version than when you posted this... we shall see I guess!

Good luck Victor_Tango - hope you get it sorted. Yes, I've had the software update since then for other reasons (connectivity for automatic map update downloads). But, for reassurance, its been nearly 2 years since the gremlins, so the VW team did sort it in the end. My only advice is to push hard for a software update. The dealers often just look on their system and report back that no updates are required as none are flagged. This is different to the question of whether an updated version of software is possible..... even if not flagged in the VW system, it's sometimes the case that more up to date versions are available to install. Good luck. Keep the faith :)

Excellent, thanks Guy. Will follow your advice (and try to remember to report back if successful )

An update... after a bit of back and forth with the dealer (Breeze Poole who have been fanastic, especially Rob in aftersales) it needs a new 5F control unit. £3,500! Covered under warranty obviously but yikes.

This happened to me yesterday after a few hours of driving, first the warning and navigator acting up, then after pulling the key and restarting the bus the whole infotainment system went off line. A few hours later following the next rest stop it sorted itself out. For now.

Once at home I found a VW letter had arrived giving me the option of extending the warranty. Could this fault have been triggered by a VW scheme to convince me to buy the extended warranty or is it just a cosmic coincidence? Hmmm....

A big thanks to all the contributors of this thread for suggesting the additional reset options I can try in case it happens again.

this happened to me in September, turn's out it was the command module at a cost of £3,600 plus tax plus fitting.
I did have the extended warranty.

Hello all, loving our new-ish MY21 199 Ocean. Thought I’d share this…. Some intermittent gremlins - such as the ”SOS” orange light coming on, together with orange warning triangle. Has happened a few times, sometimes at the same time as the infotainment system going on mute. Easily fixed on previous occasions by switching off, removing key and restarting. Until yesterday, when we had SOS light on, orange warning triangle, message that said “Error: emergency call. Please visit workshop”. And also infortainment system stuck permanently on “Loading user profile”. No amount of stopping and removal of key and restarting would budge it. Eventually called roadside assistance (at home), asked for a VW technician to come. Technician unable to reboot it even after plugging in his laptop and doing diagnosis. Soft reboot (holding on/off button for a long time - good tip) didn’t work. So he disconnected and reconnected the engine battery. All good after that. Roll on the software update to fix these gremlins. Need to carry the battery disconnecting spanner with us now :).
I was experiencing similar problems with the infotainment system and WeConnect. After three visits to a VW garage and several messages to VW themselves the problems were finally fixed by the garage in consultation with VW. VW paid for the repairs and made good the 6months I lost on my WeConnect account. The system now works well though there are some minor issues with WeConnect.
