Dear all, I am contemplating installing a 200W solar set up sold by Solar Camper Solutions. I fancy the no drilling, no gluing solution. However, before I proceed with the order, I would like to receive some feedback on two questions that I have:

1) Most importantly: does the set up create any whistling sounds or noise when travelling at 70-80 MPH?
2) Once the kit is installed, does it increase the overall height of the car, mind you I already have a Thule awning installed.

As usual I am appreciating all comments and feedback,

Thanks,

Marc

Hi, I hear no difference with Rogers 3 panels on the roof.
From memory, if the Nominal height is increased ( I don’t recall if it is or not) then it’s probably marginal. I think Roger covers that question on his website ?

Hi. Fitted 100w panel a month ago from Solar Camper Solutions. No noise that I can hear, the rest of the van is louder with so many rattles! Regarding height it’s probably no higher than my awning.

The quality is first class as was the communication and delivery. Fitting was easy with clear good instructions. I would recommend 100% and will be adding another 100w panel before autumn.

Hi
I have had the 200w set up from Roger and then added another 100w. I never had any additional height issues, no additional noise and Roger was very helpful as well.
I am actually changing van so my 300w set up is up for sale if you are interested. The third panel is a different dimension but makes no difference to the performance or fitting.
Please DM me if you are interested will be much cheaper than a new set up but you will need to collect.
Thanks
Jason

Sounds great , actually I am based in Holland and want them before I make it to UK .

So, unless you are passing through here , it won’t work I am afraid .

Hopefully someone else will take it off your hands

I bought the same kit, no and no for me. No sounds increase I noticed. No height increase I noticed. My PUK is taller on the roof and that still under 2mtr.

No noise. No height increase..
The highest point of the roof is the centre point L to R and F to R. The roof is Convex in shape.

I got Roger to install mine - he charges a very reasonable rate and does a superb job. It is actually cheaper to get him to do the install than get the kit shipped to Holland (or in my case Luxembourg), plus there will be customs duties to pay.

So my advice is to head straight down to Somerset for the start of your trip, then enjoy the southwest while you’re down there!

I had a 200W setup sent to me to Switzerland. It arrived faster than expected, in perfect condition and it was easy to install myself. I'm not aware of any height issues or additional sounds from the setup. I can only recommend it.

Thanks, I hear you , but my upcoming travels take me south to Italy and Greece

Dear all, thank you all for the re-assurances regarding wind noise and height, it was exactly what i was hoping for. Our Moxie is already 2.06 meter tall , she has a lift in addition to the BFG's, so i wanted to keep it below 2.10 Meter, which seems to be very well possible.

Order placed in the meantime and thank you all for the input.

The product & service offered by Solar Camper Solutions is first class. I fitted the 100W kit myself and am very happy with it. You'll not regret it.

Hi Jason - I would be interested in your solar panels if for sale. Thanks.

Hi Marc

Another satisfied customer - highly recommend.

Started out with 100w - travelled to Italy and no noticeable noise whilst driving even on the toll roads at high speed.
I have since added a second panel - 200w - apart from the darkest of days in the winter with the diesel heater running, there's enough power to never have to worry about hook ups again.

The casing of my awning is higher than the installed panels.

Roger is always very helpful and responsive should you have any questions before or after installation.

Everything you’ve written there could have been written by me.
This thread has become a Roger Lovefest! :D

Another JFDI post - have had my 100w panel for 3 years now, love looking at the Victron bluetooth app to see how much 'free' energy I am getting

I have a California Ocean, would you all recommend a 200W or 300W panel set up.

What is the difference between them in real life for someone based in the uk but travelling to Europe?

2 will be fine, we had 3 to compensate for the shadow from empty roof bars…but this was overkill!..2 would have been fine.

You can always start with 1/2, and then just add another later if required.
