If the leisure battery is turned off at the mains will my solar panel still charge the battery

I don’t know what you mean? If you have a solar panel connected to your leisure batteries and the Cali is outside then yes, they’ll charge.

Depends how it is wired in. Which vehicle do you have. You’ve posted in the Grand California section yet your Avatar says you have a T6 Ocean.

Also, what do you mean by “ Turned off at the Mains “?

The switch in the back doesn’t isolate the solar for some reason, this is hardly as the switched consumers drain the battery about as fast as the solar can keep up, at least during winter

I sold my ocean and bought a grand 600. I have the isolation switch turned off on the leisure battery and I want to know if my solar panel will still charge it. Thanks for your help

I’m about to have x1 panel fitted by SCS to my 2018 T6 as the advice is this likely to provide plenty of charge during a typical UK or European summer. But, I am faced with a choice of MPPT or Victron charging unit? Can anyone out there shed more light on this please?

All I know is that the installer says they do the same thing with the Victron option being slightly dearer but can connect to my phone via Bluetooth and controlled via an app?

Cheers

Can recommend BT Victron. Very compact (sits in Jack compartment of our Beach with Jack still in situ). Bluetooth allows you to see voltage at any given time and also stores the history.

Photos below show screenshots now - Leisure battery fully charged hence ‘Float’ state:

Good questions Taff, we’re in the same situation. Considering the same for the same model/year.

@Ch1pbutty, did you get yours from Roger (solar camping solutions) and if yes, did he install them or did you?

Hi

Got mine fitted earlier this week by Roger at SCS - 120w single panel that I can connect to via Bluetooth and read charging level. Went for the Victron as recommended by Ch1butty. Very neat job and with this option I can add more panels if required.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, Taff. I contacted Roger pre-covid and he was really helpful. Then . . .

After lockdown we did get to quite a few festivals and that’s when we could really do with solar. Being able to go from one festival to the next with some pub stopovers in between, without having to plug in to charge will be of real benefit to us.

How long did it take for Roger to fit it and what did you do whilst waiting? We live a good drive away so will have to hang around.

Good question, I have a feeling it still does as the solar controller still lights up and my ambient lights still work with the big red knob off!

I have the bluetooth transmitter too so I can check later.

Hi, Yes from Roger.

DIY install on our Beach took around 2 hours and was very straight forward. The instructions are excellent.

2 panels should mean that you never need to hook up again, but super easy to add an additional panel at a later date (just 4 securing bolts + plug it in to existing panel).

Ditto. We're off to Cambridge in July. Roger took about 45 minutes from start to finish. I just had time to go for a short walk, collect some free range eggs and pop into The World's End pub for a coffee! He's done so many and I'm happy with my choice so far...though not much sun since!
