When I bought my Ocean from the Birmingham VW Van Ctr I asked them to fit a spare wheel locking nut. Trouble is I now can’t find the locking nut key. VW say they don’t have a record of the key type or a master key and it’ll need to be chiselled off!
Any other ideas anyone?

It’s not in the jack/tool holder behind the rear bench?

Thanks but Sadly not. I had kept it in the cup holder but it’s now gone!

If it’s a standard locking bolt used on the spare wheel carrier & there isn’t a spare safe fitted it should take a garage about 2 minutes to remove it with a decent set of mole grips. No chisel or special equipment needed.

Sadly my locking nut has no pattern. It just spins around. The AA attempted to remove it hence the paint scratches. Any other ideas please.

That looks like the normally chrome protection cap that covers the end of the bolt to keep the end of it clean & stopping the grooves / holes getting filled with mud.
You should also have a two piece plastic removal tool to take that off.

As previously said, forget about getting keys, use a large pair of mole grips or water pump pliers on the that & it will squeeze onto the bolt & stop spinning & you can unscrew it.

Thanks all. Will try all the suggestions. If there is no lock on it why did they charge me for it? Ummmmm!

The lock nut for a spare wheel is usually a sparesafe or a trilock, which have a different pattern on the head and it is easy to get spares.

Take that metal cover off and post a pic. That will be either a Heyner or a Trilock lock nut.

The lock key is for £12 from Heyner. It may be better to buy the whole set from Amazon for £16 and have a spare nut?
