Vw grande owner no spare traveling to Spain is spare wheel compulsory anything I should know about traveling in Spain tks

From the RAC online site

For Spanish residents, a spare tyre or puncture repair kit must be carried in the vehicle, but if your car is registered outside Spain this is not obligatory.
You should, however, make sure you check all your tyres before setting off. The legal minimum depth of tyre tread is 1.6mm for the full circumference of the tyre.

Our van has 18"palmerstones fitted with No spare just the Kit, couple of questions :-
1) can we fit a suitable 'spare' tyre underneath in the cradle (which we'd have to buy) if so which one ?.

2) has anyone experienced a breakdown anywhere in the Scottish Islands - RAC/AA recovery what was the service like - we are thinking of island hopping this year.

You would have to fit a 17” steel wheel with the recommended tyre size. This would give a rolling circumference the same as your 18” wheels IF fitted with VW recommended tyre sizes. See Tyre chart on Drivers door B pillar.

A 18” wheel might fit in the spare wheel carrier, the 17” wheel will fit.

Probably find that the AA and RAC contract out their service to a local garage and both might use the same garage .
