This may seem obvious, but we have found a simple way to stay much warmer on cold nights. Tried the heater on low all night once but did not like it as we found it dries the air too much, and we like the fresh air from the vents in the tent.

So, simply we put fleece blankets down each side against the tent wall. Just stuffed in there, they make a big difference by taking away the cold edge of the bed. A small extra blanket on the foot portion also helps.
Maybe not good in the rain though. There are fairly small blankets that we normally use to cover luggage on the back shelf, so nothing extra to carry.

BTW we use the cotton sleeping bags from Decatlon, and find them excellent down to about zero. A bargain at 39 Euros.

tried on a wet night yet?

I can buy a waterproof, breathable, insulated jacket, Must be some marketable solution to producing aftermarket, breathable insulated roof tents for all the camper vans trundling around our roads ...

Have you tried alcohol

We have a Cali-Cozy from Comfortz Leisure - it is a great piece of kit.

We invested in the Kamper Kosi from Khyam. Great as it’s warm, dark and stops the wind. Keeps the canvas dry too.

Pucerscreen plus electric blanket...

We have a Rainbow Screens thermal pop top cover (plus front windscreen cover) which is fantastic and cosy - had two weeks in France Spain in low single figures overnight and up top under a double duvet very warm and snug!

Electric fleece over blanket. The manufactures claim it costs 1p a night to run, so uses very little power. Very toasty even on the coldest nights without the need for bulky bedding to stow!

We always sleep upstairs, even in the Alps when skiing at Easter - We have had some pretty cold snowy nights. On these occasions we use the Cali Topper, our double sleeping bag and usually leave the heater on all night on level 1 - Warm as toast!

Thinking about ordering these, Tony. But have some questions:

How easy is it to put on/take off? We will be putting the roof up/down a quite a lot. We want the roof up when we’re in it and to sleep, but down for security when we go away from the van (we do a lot of festivals and pub stopovers) or when going out for a drive (when on sites during “regular holidays”.

How easy are they to stow if it’s wet.

The roof struts aren’t covered, so if it’s wet do you dry them before lowering so they don’t wet the canvas, or is this not a problem?

Do

you notice the fumes from the heater at all, Glynn?

Sleep down stairs using a quality super king size duvet.
Acres of duvet to tuck in, rolls up to a very small size, wake up in the morning with no stuffy dried out air, just a cool freshness on your face and a super cosy body.
Reach out for the remote control to switch the heater on, and just lay there and enjoy before getting up and making the first cup of tea of the morning, magic!

Hi Elly. No we do not smell any fumes in the van, the only time we can smell fumes is when we open the door to step outside.

Same here. Have used in the snow. A great bit of kit.
