Hi.
I bought a 1995 T4 California Westfalia pop top earlier this year to spend weekends/weeks away in Spain.
Last week, the power unit blew - I have located the issue and I need to replace the unit/converted. It's a Philips pe2169/01 f but I cannot find a spare anywhere online.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to where I can get one or a suitable substitute please?
Thanks.

Assuming you mean the charger? Try Gunzle , can't remember the link but if you google that you'll find them.

Make sure you're sitting down before you open the link. Pricey bit of kit.
At least the you're in Spain so you can buy in Euro's.

I sense another debate looming over original equipment/alternative (cheap-er) alternatives.

Actually, I seem to recall some posting here on how to repair these units?

Spod.

It might be worthwhile considering a modern, digital replacement charger, unless you are determined to keep to original.
C-Tek make good, reliable chargers which are often used by converters.

Thanks all for your feedback.
I'm going to try (with the help of my mechanic mate) to sort this out with a modern charger.
Failing that I will go back to the original and stop drinking beer for a few weeks to pay for it :)

Good choice. Modern charging units are significantly better and smaller.

You'll loose the hookup symbol, but that's not the end of the world.

I wouldn't ever advocate giving up beer, even temporarily

The original also has a dual output, leisure and starter battery charging.
An aftermarket unit almost certainly wont.

I think there's been long discussions about this before, but not all had this function, certainly mine doesn't (and it's original). One day I'll get bored enough to have a look at the wiring, but it's never been an issue as I don't normally camp with an EHU.

Indeed D but the link you posted is for a unit with dual output. Just call me pedantic!.

You're right tho, deja-vu on this thread.

Pod, you're pedantic :)

As an aside, whenever I see your username it makes me think of one of my favorite local tipples, Sidepocket for a Toad, commonly referred to as just Sidepocket. Hmm, thirsty now.

Hmmmm, doesn't sound too appetising?
Soubriquet is work related. Part of a racing car.

Interesting. Mine's a mix of O2 and He :)

Sidepocket for a Toad is an old Hertfordshire saying. It actually means useless, as in 'He's as useful as a sidepocket for a toad'. ( I'm not suggesting for one second that you are as useful as a sidepocket for a toad, by the way, as you're always quite helpful :) )

Anyhow, it's a lovely golden session ale.

I thought I posted this. Must be getting old or I posted some where else.

It can be a cheap repair. Cousin had a blown resistor, cost pennies to replace, and a mate with good soldering skills sorted it out.

That's a good find. I found some with remote LED outputs which I figured could be converted (run through a 5v regulator) but it's always nicer to have someone else do the work :)

I'll stick a link to that one in the Useful Info Sticky.

I got this to replace me smoked Westfalia charger. You will get the Prongs symbol still when on hook up.

Hi, sorry this is my first post. Just got 1997 California and original Westfalia charger is burnt out. I'll introduce myself better later.
How's this charger going? Have you connected the temp sensor too? Not sure whether to get this one £166 apx.
or this-
http://www.travelvolts.com/Battery-chargers-.html
the 20amp value one at the bottom of the page,
works out £90.15 all in.
We are looking to go for a few trips with the wife and kids so would like to get it sorted before half term.
Thanks
Jon

Works perfectly, no troubles with it at all. It has an integrated fan which comes on occasionally; you notice it, but it's not a deal breaker.

Thanks for reply.
I got the http://www.travelvolts.com/Battery-chargers-.html 20amp charger in the end, next day delivery (in a rush!). You don't get the prong symbol but may sort that out,,,one day.
Can I ask, do you just leave yours switched on and plug/unplug the hook-up cable? In the Westfalia Exclusive that i have the charger is positioned behind a panel so it is not easily accessible.

Yes, plug and unplug as required; I've not had to touch the charger.
