t5 not starting.

I went to start the cali and all the lights came on but nothing happened it came up with this, on the dash display . I then got the local garage to plug in their diagnostic and it came up with error failure to comunícate with gearbox. Has anyone ever had this problem

Assume garage has checked battery voltage?

Is it DSG? If so there us a fuse for the mechatronic unit / gear selector. If that is blown then it will not start so you could check it as a first step. Which fuse it it varies from year / model but you could try Googling it.

So, for example it is fuse 5 according to this http://www.1946vw.co.uk/vwbooks/vw_info/T5_pdfs/T5 Fuse etc Info.pdf

If it’s a T5 and approx 15 yrs old, there is a common problem with starter motors failing at that age. Mine on a 2008 went a couple of years ago.
If you search you’ll see a few threads.

(Just a passing observation but I have read a thousand threads saying ‘have you checked this fuse.’ I don’t recall ever reading someone saying ‘it was the fuse’. Just my own experience)
