Hi, just wondering if anyone has an issue with their T6.1 fitted awning when winding it out.

We wind ours out but the arm nearest the boot always locks out and then we have to push the ‘knuckle’ in at the same time as winding in to retract it. This seems to happen everytime and don’t feel as if we overwind it out.

Seem to recall we should ‘wind out and then one turn back to get the canvas taut’

Are we doing something wrong or do we have an issue? At what point do you know you’ve wound it out sufficiently?

Thanks for people’s help & advice in advance.

If you wind out until one or both arms are straight then you will always have to push the hinge joint inwards, otherwise you will put excessive strain on the canvas and or gearbox/mechanism to get it folding inwards.

Thanks for the reply.
We never get to a point where the arm is straight before it locks. Wind out length is to about 6’2 before it locks. The arm nearest the drivers door is always more angled than the rear end.

We never get to see another ocean to check on our travels!!

We have the same issue. Had to call vw assist last week as awning would not retract and we snapped the crank handle trying to wind it in. Used it about 10 times and had a problem three times. We’re going to do some more testing at home to see if it’s faulty.

I’m thinking it might be faulty. All online advice is wind out until extended and then one turn back so that canvas is taut. We always seem to have have a slight slack in the canvas. The van has to go in to have oil service message reset so may ask then. Good luck!
