The mpg doesnt improve. More power means more energy and therefore more fuel. The mpg is misleading because the nature of the tuning box is it plays around with the input signals to the ecu so in turn the ecu outputs are now corrupted data. So your fuel economy can only be relied upon by the brim to brim method. I suggest the OP try this and see the difference.

Tuning box,s can work effectively I have used them myself but no free lunch Im afraid.
Longer term the big threat is to the DPF as your chucking more soot into it.

Emissions depends which your talking about however higher temps (from the power) = higher NoX , did the tuner measure it ? Nope

Yes the mpg claims are a bit of a falacy. Yes, if you drive at the same speed, accelerate the the same etc as you did before fitting the device then you may get improved mpg because it's bascially making the engine more efficient. However, as the tune up increase the power you tend to use it more so more power requires more fuel so any gains are lost.

How is it more efficient , what is changed leaner burn , less regens ?

I've yet to see one of these tuning companies give verifiable evidence of the fuel consumption and emissions produced after a remap or using a tuning box.
You cannot get something for nothing I'm afraid.
Increased HP or Torque comes from somewhere. It's not magically created.

Try the average MPG on Memory 2 , measured over 20,000 miles.
I can match that at 70 on the M50 using Memory 1

Bear in mind we’re talking about a generic engine here with variable power outputs based on essentially software controlled fueling and boost.
It may well be that the base “design” case is/was a higher output and the lower power configuration is less efficient.
