Top Gear without Evans

It was bad enough with that Evans bloke, constantly giggling and screaming like a 9 year old schoolgirl on Helium, but these three with their cackling squeals and juvenile "pranks" come over as a bunch of privileged tossers playing with daddy's fast cars.......

Just my view of course.

It worked with Clarkson, Hammond and May because then it was the time and the place and of course the Clarkson but now it is just so dated. All four need to grow up: the three presenters and the programme format.
It's entertainment with some product placement and a large national/International following.
You've obviously watched at least one episode to have such opinions and the manufacturers that donate/allow their vehicles/merchandise to be used believe there is a benefit to their business and to be honest it's a damn sight more entertaining than some of the trash served up by the BBC.

A bit of respite after 2 nights of Come Dancing!

Yes, for those that like that sort of thing I'm sure it's hugely entertaining.

I used to love Top Gear, now I find it Banal, Just my opinion.

However talking of ex top gear presenters, thank you in another thread for pointing me towards Clarkson's farm. Loved him on Top Gear, then felt his ego was overwhelming his television appeal but now for me he has redeemed himself with that programme.

There is a 2nd season in the making, and the NFU like him.

the original was best because it was just that, original. clarkson may and hammond are famous for top gear. top gear evolved over decades with clarkson at the front. james may has engineering talent, can fly planes and is very dry and funny, his other solo shows are great, like the reassembler and manlab. flintoff and paddy were already famous and get on my tits when they say 'oh no' 'ooooor naaaaaw'. i never watched cricket and certainly never watched the other sh1te paddy does, saturday night out or whatever the crap was called. if they wanted someone already famous why didn't they go for guy martin, jay leno and maybe an engineer type guy ?
having said that, Evans and that dick from friends was dreadfull, never understood why the greedy twats took the money for that show but it's still a slightly better show than alot of the crap on the beeb these days. a program to record and watch when theres nothing much better to do. they did show off the beautiful northumberland a bit too.

I thought he showed a lot of sympathy for farmers, especially the closing comments of the last episode "next time you hear a farmer complain about the weather, buy him a drink".

My niece's partner has an arable farm near St Helens. I was up in Saddleworth a few weeks ago but she had to join us on her own as he had to stay behind. A beautiful, clear, dry day followed by a lovely BBQ under clear skies but for him it was the forecast of 9 days of rain that ruined his evening.

I think it is a prescient moment to be thinking about where our food comes from and to appreciate what it takes to get it to our plates.

The Paddy guy should never have been allowed near Question of Sport either-another decent programme doomed! Guy Martin would have been much better for Top Gear.
i stoped watching Top Gear a good few years ago as it wasn’t about cars any longer. Switched it on with Chris Evans- lasted about 10 minutes. Utter tripe. Same with this latest lot. They should retire the show and come up with something new.

Agree, Guy Martin would be a good move, him, Chris Harris and maybe Vicky Henderson-Butler could make an interesting team.

That Paddy bloke's accent get's on my nerves. It's that chewy Lancashire mill town twang, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and all in-between. My kids were born and raised in Oldham and Preston but don't speak like that, only a brother in law who fancies himself as a bit of a Fred Dibnah type.

I watched him present a programme on Eddie Kidd, a subject that should have been brilliantly watchable I turned away from because of the presentation.

At the time when Clarkson and gang left I thought Glenister and Anstead (For the Love of Cars) would be a good fit. They had their own style of banter and an honest interest in cars.

The ones they have now are desperately trying to be funny and it just doesn't work for me. I watched the recent episode on caravanning based on the suggestion in this thread. Pitiful.

I like my kids. As I said, and they were born and bred "oop north", in Oldham and Preston, but don't talk like that Paddy bloke. Yorkshire is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. My MBA came from Manchester business School and I spent 20 years of my life living, working, studying, socialising and climbing "oop North". The Coogan Family have been very kind to me and Steve Coogan came from Middleton, not far from Farnworth where I now find that Paddy bloke comes from, but he doesn't sound like Fred Dibnah with his trousers too tight. His aunty Molly even sang at my wedding and I love her to bits!!

Nowt wrong with the accents, but where I was born and brought up people used to emphasise their "cockney"accents because at one time they thought it was cool to do so and I get the same vibe with paddy bloke.

Seriously, I think why it's toe-curling to me is because he sounds like one of my Brother in laws, he always tries to emphasise his accent and used to relentlessly take the P!ss out of mine,

Parallels with "that" other thread about suitability of presenters for shows, their annoyin' accents and the fact they pop up everywhere just because they are the talent of the minute. GrannyJen, your acceptance/rejection of local accents has done a 180 turn compared to the other thread. Raises a smile.

Not really. It's the individual and his portrayal.

For me its just about switching off. Out of the 3, I prefer Chris, then Flintoff and Paddy a way off the back.

Bring back William Woollard and those fascinating insights into such things as the size of the glovebox in an E30 Beamer.
