Traction mats

Not sure if this topic has been covered before, but after a day out last summer when our Cali front wheels got stuck in wet grass, we're looking to get some traction/grip mats to carry in case of similar situations this year!

Has anyone got any recommendations ?
:thanks

We carry a pair of Maxtrax if the going looks remotely dodgy. OTT for grass perhaps but will work a treat and very useful in sand (remember summer?). We've used them for the Defender 110 and the Cali and they're brilliant. Two young friends borrowed them for their Landrover trip to Morocco this winter and said they were amazing. Available in a wide range of colours now, too, not just the lurid orange. Many Offroad specialists incl. Devon 4x4 sell them for about £274 incl VAT per pair. We don't 'do' manicured sites and mainly wild camp in remote places where you really don't want to get stuck. Would love a Seikel California but these will have to do for now ;-)

Here's one of the Maxtrax videos but there are loads on Youtube.

And some alternatives:

I have cheap under a tenner pyramid mats and work very well if needed ...:)

We have some tracks that look like rope ladders with yellow plastic treads, but there is no branding on them and I can't find them on the internet any more. They have got us out of trouble a couple of times though, so I reckon some form of mat is a good investment.

One other thought - make sure you have found where the towing eye attaches and have found the towing eye, which should be in with the jack etc. Useful to be able to set things up quickly if you ever need to get towed out by a friendly farmer with a tractor!

Thanks for all your help - I'll let you know which mats I go for. Hopefully they'll not be used too much this summer tho !
