Would it be rude to ask how much your repair cost? I am anticipating a large bill to fix mine... but its un-useable as is!
Ed can definately sort all of that I'm sure, the rotary knob button on mine was also very sensitive and skipping and he sourced a replacement and fitted. Most of the parts are very cheap eg. New rotary button mechanism was about £4/5.00 just the labour which costs a bit more, but even that is discounted. Anything that was needed for mine Ed managed to source within a day or 2 even a special ribbon for the LCD he had to get from Italy, so I'm sure he can sort everything you need.Thats very useful thanks... Mine needs sorting out as it has numerous issues. The rotary control 'jumps' and will not hold a position on a selection making it hard to access the menus, the illumination has stopped working on the direct buttons and now the heater button has packed up! Hopefully this can all be sorted....
We can sort these issues out, I haven't got a source for the push buttons yet, but we keep adding to the parts library!Thats very useful thanks... Mine needs sorting out as it has numerous issues. Can you give us some idea of costs of the work you have done on these panels?I just restored another really degraded display, this time it had only about two partly working rows of pixels to begin with!

I would imagine the only DIY repair that anybody tries would be replacement of the knob which most have done successfully as it’s quite straightforward. In this post I have already mentioned a price range:

It's worth noting that any unit where a DIY repair has already been attempted, these estimates are invalid as the parts and labour costs can be much higher. In these cases, it's worth sending the unit to us so we can provide a quote.
I've seen a few units with damage to ribbon cables, melted ribbon cables, deformed LCD connection caused by heating and snapped connectors - these require a lot of parts and much more work to restore full function. That’s why when I replaced the knob I didn’t remove the ribbons. It made the job much easier. I wish VW would supply just the knobs without the complete facia panel.I've seen a few units with damage to ribbon cables, melted ribbon cables, deformed LCD connection caused by heating and snapped connectors - these require a lot of parts and much more work to restore full function. I think you're talking about the two white "Flat Flexible Cables" that link the front and back circuit boards. I've seen these ripped off the circuit board and also seen the connectors damaged to the point they need replacing. I think this happens when people first open the two halves of the case and accidentally yank on the cables. That’s why when I replaced the knob I didn’t remove the ribbons. I had a similar problem with the control panel display and also used Ed at EERepairs, his customer service was excellent as was his diagnostics, he kept me informed throughout the process and had the unit back with me within 4 days... amazing.Ed at EE repair has successfully repaired my Control unit this week. I sent this to him on Monday and he had repaired the unit on Tuesday and was back to me on Thursday working as new. I was kept updated throughout the process and fully informed with the repairs needed. Ed replaced the Rotary control A20 that was causing the menus to 'skip' and also re-attached a loose ribbon connector so I have regained my heater button function and my dash/on-off/function(yellow) illumination. Re-installed today and working perfectly! All menus now accessible and no skipping. the van is happy again...
Many thanks to Ed for his diagnostics and work with sorting this. Would highly reccommend his service and support. If you are considering this as a repair to a faulty unit then it is an efficient and cost effective solution to the fragile VW OEM part.
Thanks Ed... MH
This depends on the work carried out. 6 months warranty against defects on repair work is generally the minimum we offer. In the cases where we replace the ribbon that connects the LCD, we offer 1 year. How long is the warranty on the repairs you do?
Is your charge still £100 per hour or is it £90 per hour for club members. This depends on the work carried out. 6 months warranty against defects on repair work is generally the minimum we offer. In the cases where we replace the ribbon that connects the LCD, we offer 1 year.

What was the fraction you had to pay for the repair?Another happy repair !
If you've seen the dreaded lines appear across your control panel, you'll have searched numerous forums for repair options (and even DIY fixes), you'll also have seen the huge prices being quoted for new units!
I've had the screen problems appear over the past couple of years, and have had the control panel repaired twice by Verotronics. Very happy with the service that they provided, but the screen has had lines appear for the 3rd time. I, therefore, needed to find a more permanent fix. I was looking at simply replacing the panel (though saw prices of £850+ for a new control panel), when I, thankfully, read about Ed and his UK repair option - https://ee-repair.com/vw-california-control-panel-lcd
I have given it a go, and am delighted with how easy it was to get a working control panel back. Ed provided really clear photos upon receipt and of the tests that he has performed to diagnose the faults - made worse by the previous fixes. Replacement parts sourced and repair complete, I once again received photos of the unit now working - and looking brand new (for a fraction of the cost of a new unit!).
I never comment in forums online, but just had to endorse Ed as I have been blown away by his service and it needs to get some more profile.
Hi Pete,What was the fraction you had to pay for the repair?
