Hello, for 4 years now we have been using the camper with our family, 2 adults and 2 children, there is no road where the children do not complain about how uncomfortable the back seat is when we travel. It is too short, even for 2 children, the backrest is too straight without any tilt adjustment. For years I have been thinking about how to change it to something more comfortable but I can't find the solution. I would like to ask on this path if anyone has changed this seat before and maybe you can give me some information, solutions. Thank you!

It might be easier to change your children

If you can't write something smart, it's better to keep quiet, at least no one knows how stupid you are!
I found the @acer post amusing, but clearly not everyone appreciates English humour.

Regarding post #1, the bench seat offers pretty basic seating, however on my T6.1 Ocean I am able to recline the back slightly if required.

I disagree.
My post reveals nothing about my intellect and was clearly designed to raise a smile.
On the other hand, your reply shows that you lack a sense of humour. Moreover, your reply was intended to belittle and cause offence. It reveals you.
This forum is usually a lot better than this and to get the most out of it you will need to show good humour and respect.

Thanks for the support.
Mark Twain said something like “the man who travels through life without a sense of humour is likely to feel every bump in the road, especially on the back seat of a VW California.”

We only need to use this seat occasionally but agree that it is extremely uncomfortable! I unvelcroed the seat part and then reattached it slightly forward of where it was originally sitting. Even that minimal movement has made it much more comfortable.

We're looking at purchasing a GC to replace our third Cali and have the same concern about the bench seat. The Westfalia Sven Hedin which is based on the Crafter has a reclining bench seat and I wonder if it would fit the GC and if it is possible to buy one (no doubt at some expense).

I don't know that you can do anything about it except remove the headrests and replace them with a firm sponge adhered to the wall. You might also write to the VW HQ in Germany about the design fault. I did this about the inaccessibility of the electrics. To no avail, I might add, but they need to hear it and they did reply, but refused my request for a complete re - placement of the cabinet. Not surprisingly really. They are in Germany, search on the web.

I completely understand your question. My wife and I feel the same although we have concluded that perhaps they are like that as they form the base for the rock n’ roll bed. We have tried to make things a little better with the use of cushions. In particular we bought a quillow (www.naturalquilts.com) which is larger, softer and cosier than a basic cushion and works for us

All panel campervans with a similar layout seem to have the same problem with that rear bench seat. They all look like you are on a coach or train seat. They never look something I would like to sit on during a journey or especially relaxing on during the evening. I think it is flaw in most panel vans.

I think I am in the minority and like the comfort of the firm rear bench on the 600, it is also much cooler for seating in then very soft seats during the summer months. I agree that it is too narrow for two adults, but I view this camper as a 2+2. The seat has been crash tested by ADAC, and has been commended for it's safety compared to other campers where the bench seat completely collapsed (YouTube videos available). To increase the comfort you could try some of the memory foam overlays that are on sale on AliExpress (and other websites), this would make the bench softer, but will not help with the angle of the backrest.

That back seat is a front double out of a transporter van, if you think its bad in a G600 you should try it in transporter, person sitting next to the door looses most of their legroom due to the wheel arch, the other person looses a kneecap due to the gear-lever. AT least in a GC you can stretch your legs.
My mate has one & we regularly travel 3 up in the front, we cant get the seatbelts on without opening the door.
Ive done London to Newcastle & back in a day it took me a week or so to recover!
