Upgrading from Dunlop OE tyres

Just back from the Western Isles and this has set me thinking about what to replace the 17" OE Dunlop Sport tyres with. They have done about 18k and while they still have 2-3 mm they did let us down a little on wet grass and loose surface slopes- not very secure feeling at times. (As an aside, we also had the indignity of having to be towed off the verge of a very narrow single track road many miles into isolation on the Ardnamurchan peninsula...but that was my fault for being too ready to back up onto a dodgy non-passing place...and the best tyres in the world would not have saved us as we went right down to the floor!).

We do have a set of Benn's Cargo Vector M&S tyres. Would they be good all season tyres? Would something else be a better summer season tyre with a bit more traction than the Dunlop Sports? Any advice?
