Hi all,

Our upstairs bed in the 6.1 Coast consist of two parts
  1. Froli Springs (these mushroom looking discs)
  2. a thin mattress, maybe 1.5 - 2 inches thick
Not sure whether this is the standard setup in a 2022 6.1or whether it is aftermarket.

In all, the setup is actually quite comfy had it not been for a mismatch in the width of the two elements. The mattress is about 3 inch narrower than the upstairs base it is put in. The Froli system goes from side to side, and we have noticed than when climbing up, the mattress sometimes slides to one side leaving a gap of about 3 inches between mattress and side of base (the hard upstanding side)

This gap creates quite some discomfort and actually caused a nasty back injury. For now, I used pipe insulation foam to close the gap hoping it will solve the issue. We have not tested it yet.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and if yes, how did you resolve it?

Should the pipe insulation does not resolve it, I am thinking of replacing the whole setup and put in a made to measure mattress or a Sea to Summit mattress if it fits snugly upstairs, unless other solutions are offered.

The missus is reluctant to go back upstairs now because of this issue.

My ‘upstairs’ mattress measures 1160mm wide and fits over both the Froli springs and the small shaped end foam section perfectly - no gaps. The small shaped end foam is attached to the mattress with a zip.

Same here - our mattress is a perfect fit and never moves. Pics could help us compare to ours.

My 2024 T6.1 model's upstairs mattress completely covers the froli sprung base, no gaps.

Setup is standard and no gap in my 2022 ocean 6.1
Your profile says looking to buy, don’t forget to update.

thanks, i will post some pics tomorrow. it definitely is not a snug fit
@MCEv I notice you have Coast (whilst all feedback so far is from Ocean owners), I wonder if you have an electric or manual pop top roof; and whether there is any dimensional difference between the two? If there is no difference in bed width between the two roof types - as I think is the case - and if your mattress is not 1160mm wide (as my Ocean) then you must somehow have a wrong mattress.

I have a 2022 Coast with a manual roof and no gaps at all with the standard mattress
Well @Mattsv, just a thought, but if you have a Coast and perhaps were able to measure its mattress width @MCEv (assuming his roof is manual too) could compare?

Thank you, my bad. I have an Ocean 6.1 with electric pop up. I will measure and take pics later today when it is dry. One thing for sure, the mattress is not a snug fit between the two sides and if i place the mattress in the middle of the base, I have about 1.5 inch on either side. Hence the sliding of mattress to one side leaving a gap of 3 inch.

Dear all, thank you all for the responses. I have measured the mattress and indeed it is 116 cm wide (standard) and when placed in the middle of the base, it does cover the froli discs. But it is not a snug fit, ie 1.5 inch gap on either side of the mattress, maybe to accommodate the struts for the bottom part. (see pic 2&3)71ce45ca-50c8-4f65-aa4e-7428daac3295.jpg6b82598a-08c0-49c6-8133-021f3996598b.jpg4a8e3f17-23f4-47ff-86bf-a84b92feaecb.jpg

When we do climb up, it seems that the mattress slides to one side (over the sunken strut) and thus leaving a gap of about 3 inches on the other side, this is the gap that causes the issue. The mattress also slides over the "trench" for the strut.

For now I will be using pipe insulation foam (1.5 inch) on either side unless someone has some insights or other solutions. I agree that the strut movement would require a gap, but 1.5 inch seems overkill.

The first and second picture shows the gap in question when the mattress slides to one side and 3rd picture shows the width of the mattress

I only ever sleep on my own upstairs or downstairs with my wife: so others who do double up upstairs will be better qualified to comment. However, extending the 'comfortable' width with pipe insulation seems a good solution, perhaps then with a topper/Duvalay over it all?

Here's a pic of what it should look like - photo from Brandrup catalogue

thx, is this a topper or a configuration without froli discs ?
