Would this still be an issue on 2023/2024 vans? Whats the best way to avoid this? Avoid cheap supermarket fuel? Preventatively replace the HPFP every 5 years?
Been thinking along the same lines myself. I personally avoid Bio Diesel as much as possible and always go for the larger brands like Shell, Avia, Eni, etc. I have also been using Diesel cleaning additives every 4 tanks since new (STP). So far my engine is purring like a kitten.Would this still be an issue on 2023/2024 vans? Whats the best way to avoid this? Avoid cheap supermarket fuel? This is the one I use when I can find it:Webbah, which product do you use exactly? Amazon showed me several options in STP additives, cleaners, fuel, injectors...???
Here in English:This is the one I use when I can find it:
Universal Kraftstoffanlagen-Reiniger Diesel | STP®
And this is the one that is more readily available at most gas stations that I use if I don't have any with me:
Dieselzusatz | STP®
STP® Dieselzusatz reinigt das Kraftstoffsystem, senkt den Verbrauch und sorgt dafür, dass Ihr Motor das ganze Jahr über problemlos anspringt.www.stp.com
Sorry it's in German but the same products are available worldwide

Yeah, LiquiMoly also sells a good product. Point is to use something is better than nothing....Rhino is also good
An aftermarket fuel filter might help.Whats the best way to avoid this?
Trouble is the filter needs to be on the output side of the pump which is high pressure, the existing filters are between the tank & pump on the low pressure side & designed to catch any sediment that comes from the tank.An aftermarket fuel filter might help.

They unfortunately never told me to ad anything in the Diesel tank.
Only by the companies that make/sell them.I wonder if it's ever been scientifically proven that all these additives actually prevent anything. Never used them myself either.

135,000 miles in 9 + years using standard diesel and no 3rd party additives.
France gets most of its crude oil from North African countries like Libya and Algeria. Oil sourced from there is considered some of the best available due to the low sulphur content. Every little helps.I hardly ever refuel at big brands.
I might do an occasional fill up at Total (they offer 3 weeks of road assistance when refuelling there for at least 25 liters). For the rest, I only refuel at the lowest price I see (Intermarché, Leclerc, Super U, Carrefour in France, Gabriëls in Belgium).
I have (luckily) never encountered any problems in the 14 years and almost 200000km of ownership.
Oh, and I only refueled once in Switzerland, after I forgot that the diesel price is much higher there than in France. But that was back in 2010. Never had any issues either.
In the UK Diesel has antifreezing additives during the winter months, possibly less than in your area. Many of the instances of this problem that I found googling seem to be from Switzerland. I wonder if the additives we use prevent diesel from freezing in winter may be a contributing factor.
This problem with the HPPF pump certainly isn't a major topic on the T6 forum.Reading this is freaking me out a bit. Our beach hasn’t started first time a couple of times since we’ve had it (from new; 2019) which I put down to the battery needing a charge and/or cold weather. When should I be worried?

Well, if your engine runs fine on fuels from other countries, then the problem will be in Swiss fuel. Then this has nothing to do with VW.It seems like it started here in winter 2023 so let’s see in winter 2024 if more vans have the problem. And let’s hope it’s a minus topic .
For now, our van is starting fine again, but we have just come back from the south of France where it was 34 degrees, so I think the motor was hot enough not to have this issue. I’ll keep you posted how this story evolves and what VW do to help.
Exactly my thoughts, particularly as the problem only arose last winter and the Swiss add winter additives.Well, if your engine runs fine on fuels from other countries, then the problem will be in Swiss fuel. Then this has nothing to do with VW.
Yes, I have the crossed out bio diesel sticker too, but all uk diesel appears to be 7% bio. Also, on my fuel lid it states not for Bio diesel. Too bad I can only buy B7 (maximum of 7% bio fuel). I want to have the freedom to fuel non bio diesel.

May well be the same issue arising across other engine manufacturers not just VW.
I can release my clenched buttocks over this story now I think.
