Our original three year VW warranty is about to expire (can’t believe we’ve had Celia that long!). Wondering whether to go for some of VW’s extended warranty products.

Does anyone have any experience of whether they are worth considering?

The VW Commercial All in One policy is probably the best BUT there are some exclusions as with all policies.
You get 2 x Services, 2 x MOT, 2 yrs VW Assistance and 2 yrs Warranty BUT some oil seals are excluded as are general wear & tear items. Also DSG, Haldex oil changes are excluded as are Brake fluid change and AirCon recharge.

After 4 year warranty expired, I purchased VW extended warranty in December, warranty, two years services, two mot’s & VW assist = £43.00 per month.

I took out the 2 year extended service/warranty package.
When engine developed an oil leak from the front crank area VW wouldn't replace the part (common fault) under warranty. Others reported having that done by other Warranty Suppliers no issue.

I did have a split EGR pipe replaced at home by VW Assist for free saving about £300 on parts and labour.

I did have an Independent warranty for 2 years between the VW initial 3 year one and taking out the VW 2 year package. I found that some Garages won't do work on behalf of those Independent Warranties as 'too much hassle getting paid' which makes the VW option more attractive, especially with the services which are 1 minor and 1 full service.

It seems to depend on your local VW Dealership how hard they push on your behalf.

Just be aware that it isn't as comprehensive as you may be led to believe.

Fortunately I purchased the All-In at the right time and am paying £28 per month - prices have really increased.
My van is 8 years old in November, so looks like I will be ‘self insuring’ after that.

I think mine is £33, VW do black Friday deals, and other random offers so far as I can see...keep refreshing the VW service page for latest price. Not sure if it's a good investment or not as yet, MOT not due until Nov, but it does include a roadside recovery facility

Word of caution regarding VW main dealerships that follow fixed service procedures. They don’t clean then Haldex (5th Gen) pump motor filter gauze when replacing Haldex fluid. They don’t replace the DSG fluid filter when they replace the DSG fluid. They don’t include as routine replacing the following fluids: power steering fluid at 60k miles, bevel axle oil at 60k miles, rear differential (4 motion) axle oil every third Haldex fluid change. They will claim they are either not required or are fit/fill for life items.

They over charge for the fluids they do replace for example VW branded DSG fluid, of which you need at least 6 litres) is £50 a litre , VW does not make DSG fluid they use Fuch Titan DSG fluid. You can buy that from any reputable oil supplier for £17 litre

I would sooner trust my high value California to a good independent VW Specialist. Better value and much better service in my opinion and based on my experiences dealing with both

We’ve had the All in One cover on other vehicles and, at the time, it was a no brainier, as the warranty was virtually free when you tot up the other items. As others have said, look out for offers at various times through the year
