Dear Cali lovers

A few weeks ago we went to the Netherlands and I don't want to keep this from you ;)
For us it's not far -we leave from Bruges, Belgium- but it can be some info if you ever come here.
First of all we wanted to see the beautiful flowers there and boy, what a bull's eye this was! Mighty flower fields in the region of Lisse. Lisse where the Keukenhof is also because this was the first of our travel destinations. Book in advance (cheaper) and take your arrival time late enough (it is open long enough). We arrived at 3:30 pm and it was extremely busy -beautiful sunny day- but an hour later half of them had already left (coaches full). I have to say that we were there more than 10 years ago and the weeks before were not so good then and there were significantly fewer flowers; so know that it strongly depends on the weather which is also logical. Now it was beautiful there. What a mighty beautiful flower park they can create there! Definitely worth it and yes, also very touristy but I also feel like a tourist and like being -a well behaved- one.

We also went to a nice bar on the beach in Noordwijk Aan Zee. Very beautiful there, definitely recommended to discover that coast: Waasdorp, Wijk aan Zee and then to our second -ultra touristic- destination: the Zaanse Schans. Very beautiful and also worth a visit: there is more to do than just mills. If you want to visit the mills and some museums you have to buy -relatively expensive- tickets, but at the start there is enough to visit without having to buy tickets and you can take a nice walk along the mills.

Announcement: don't forget to eat a fish in the Netherlands.
Third destination and hold on tight because this one is hyper touristic: Volendam. Visitors also arrive there by fully loaded buses, but it is still nice there. Delicious young herring, hmm and fresh poffertjes from a stall on the dike.
Last stop: Groningen. By the way, there are also many flower fields in the direction of Groningen. Beautiful city and climb the Martini Tower, quite an experience.

Delicious pancakes eaten in the Pannekoekenschip, a visit highly recommended. We visited the Groninger Museum and were impressed.
Café de Sigaar with a nice beer and the best bitterballen we ever ate, and after that we drove home. Our short trip was a success.
Where did we sleep: Camperplaats Olmenhorst, Lisserbroek (2x); Boerencamping Weidevogelzicht, Kwadijk; Camper site Het Knooppunt, Nuis.

Greetings
Calibusje
