Hello.

Firstly, congratulations on such a wonderful forum. It's been incredibly informative for a novice such as myself. I am in the process of spec'ing my first Cali Ocean 204 DSG. Hoping to purchase in the foreseeable future. All rather exciting. I would however appreciate your assistance re. weight and assurance that my calculations as follows are correct.

Gross weight (max laden) 3000kg

Unladen weight 2598kg

3000-2598=402kg

So, I can carry 402kg

People 3 no. Approx 75kg = 225kg

402-225=177kg left

So, 177kg for everything else including fuel, water, gas bottle, tow bar, bike rack, bikes, dog, clothes, kitchen stuff, lower bed topper, drive away awning, bedding etc. How is this possible?? Thanks.

According to Brochure Unladen weight includes full tank of fuel and I presume Adblue, so an extra 80 Kgm.

Welcome on your first post .

My 2012 SE keuring (like yours MOT ) papers say.

3000kg max total weight
2500kg verhicle weight
500kg - 75kg ( average driver ) = 425 kg carry load
Assuming all tanks (waste + fresh water and gas ) are 90% full

Thats why i always scratch my head seeing some loading theire Cali with drive away awnings , bikeracks with bikes , four people , microwaves , tv's , oil filled radiators .....
Very much doubt they are within' limits.

It is so easy to overload a vehicle such as a campervan. In a vehicle like an Ocean, 2 adults & 2 kids + bikes and all the other caboodle for a fortnights holiday is guaranteed to put you overweight, so you will have to be careful.

The application of these rules is dependent upon the inspecting authority and the rules are applied differently throughout Europe. Penalties can vary from advice being given, to a hefty fine and your vehicle being impounded.

Cut travelling weight and avoid possible prosecution by leaving the kids, their bikes and all the other crap they want to take with the grandparents or friendly neighbour for the duration of your holiday!! That way you will have sufficient capacity to include a case or two of your favourite wine & cheese.

(I shall now put on my tin hat and hide)

Guess it also make sense to leave the water tanks empty and perhaps reduce the amount of fuel you are carrying if going to an area where weight might be an issue.

Also recommended cheese is Gouda as it's full of holes / air.

I've been told off for suggesting some Californias might be overloaded. Hope you get away with it.:Nailbiting

Also 75Kgm for an Adult is a very optimistic average for nowadays.;)

My 2014 180 DSG 4-Motion has a Load Capacity of 446Kgm inclusive of 80L of Diesel. As there are only 2 of us - no problem.

How much heavy stuff do you take? I reckon in an SE you would run out of space well before you run out of weight capacity. We have been on a weigh bridge with 6 of us in an SE with 2x5th seats fitted & every conceivable space filled with stuff - luggage for 6 & the fridge rammed full - no bike rack or roof box & we still had about 80kg left

Don't buy a 204 buy the 150 and get additional payload capacity.

Thank you all for your contributions. Much appreciated. Yes it has crossed my mind re. 150. I have read there is a 36kg unladen difference between them. What could this possibly be other than the additional turbo? Maybe it does weigh that amount?!

I drive one of the older 140ps SE models if I were getting a T6, which I might, I would go for the 150. Payload is more important to me than a bit of extra speed. My wife likes to pack lots of stuff and why not if the Cali can take it.

Have you got something against the 150? Or are we just on a campervan power trip here?

204hp owners have larger wallets (I've heard).
My comments were in response to this post above.

Probably my Welsh Humour. I thought it was funny but didn't take into account that some members can be a little touchy.:Iamsorry
