Hi I've just recently purchased a VW California Ocean 4 Motion and this is my first post on this forum. The 'bug' has obviously been getting around (and the excitement) as my friends daughter is about to purchase an 8 year old VW California Ocean? The question I'm asking is: 'Has anyone ever purchased an Extended warranty for an 8 year old California?'
The motivation for purchasing an extended warranty for the vehicle is to have a 'peace of mind'. So does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions?
Many thanks

Hi , I have an aftermarket warranty on my Range Rover Sport with Warranty Direct and they are very good. I’ve had a few claims over the last 4 years with them and they haven’t tried to wriggle out of paying yet……

VW won't offer an extended Warranty due to the age.

I did have an independent warranty and found some Garages won't do repairs for them due to too much 'hassle' getting job approval and paid.

Carefully check what is and isn't covered.

Thanks for your reply, yes I recognised that VW would not give a warranty on vehicles over 6 years old. I'll certainly check out the the fine print before any warranty is taken out. Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

I am in the same boat as my van is coming to 7 years and VW will not extend the warranty anymore. I have warranty direct and warranty wise on the list. Will update once I take a call. Tending towards warranty direct. Still to price up options. I have 2 weeks to take a call.

To put it into perspective.
Owned van for 10 yrs and 134,000 + miles . Initial warranty 4 yrs, nil for 6 yrs.
Only thing that went wrong in those last 6 yrs was an ABS sensor and I very much doubt that would be covered by Warranty. Front disks and all brake pads replaced during that time and they wouldn't have been covered.
I put £1000/ Yr into an ISA for possible problems. Now have a bonus £6000 to spend.

Great idea!.... I will suggest the same advice.

Thanks for your reply.... I contacted Warranty Direct for a quote but because of the year (2017) and miles (66K) they wouldn't quote me!

Snap....same with dog insurance, although neither are in an ISA.

Similiary I had a big spend on the van this year due to previous work carried out by a third party. I bit the bullet and changed both rear arms and bearings at cost of £2700. None of which would have been covered by warranty. Van is 9.5yrs old and coming up to 80k

Thanks for that..... its looking less likely a warranty will be taken out.... to make a warranty affordable the claim limit on the warranty has to be reduced!!
Many thanks

Just tried a quote with Warranty wise. At 53000 mls, WW gives me the below cover:

Your cover

08/80

Based on your vehicle, Your cover level is 08/80, this means your vehicle is less than 8 years and has done less than 80,000 miles.

With a labour rate of £200, a single repair amount of £5000 and a voluntary contribution of £250, with AirConditioning, Emissions and MOT Failure fixes includes, the price is £58 per month.

If I include Driver Assist Systems, it jumps to £67 per month.

Interesting.

Not tried the option of more than 8 years. but, @CJ24 , if it does not give an option of more than 8 years, then WG's option of £1000 per year in an ISA will be a good option.

Ok Warranty Direct gave me a quote as below:

Cover Level: Gold
Term: 12 months
Your Price: £1395.60

I am sure they will also cover over 8 year old vehicle.

We tried Warranty Direct and they would not quote!....looks like the ISA method might be favourite!! :)
