Just picked up a nice Breitling B1 here in France for what seemed a good price compared to the UK ( it was an official Breitling dealer and not the 'looky looky' man)

Anyone else into watches?

Only wear a watch at work so i know when it's time to go home .
And occasionally on vacation on hikingtrips , now a days we all got everything we need to know on a pocket computer so not in to spending €$£ on Breitlings as my Iphone is expencive enough ;)
But if you are in to those , guess you did a nice deal !

In my yuppie years (the 70s) I spent a small fortune on the latest Japanese watch gadgets (mostly Seiko and Casio). Today I'm back to basics, with large-dial analog-display watches: a classic Braun for home use and a Timex Heritage Easy Reader for when we go out with our Cali. The latter is as basic as it gets (not even a date) but it has an Indiglo dial so I can see what time it is when I go out for a pee in the middle of the night!

I had a Breitling many years ago, loved it before it got stolen, I never replaced it after that. I just have some cheaper watches these days but I always like to wear one, i guess the experience put me off. I mostly wear my apple watch in the last year, sad to admit.

I do have a lovely Lanco watch my partner bought me that was made the year I was born (75) for my 40th. That one is quite special to me for that reason, not worth as much as the Brietling was but more special to me for obvious reasons. Be gutted if that got stolen.

I have a lovely Omega Seamster and have had for 25 years or so. Its getting a bit pricey to own and is currently away getting a battery change. £102 for a battery change and a service (done a few years ago) of over £300. It is a lovely watch, I enjoy wearing it and whilst I'd not like to be without it its a hefty price to pay for a simple timepiece. I also have a Mondain pocket watch that has the plainest and most stylish of faces (I don't get to wear a wrist watch at work). Breitling was the main competitor to the Omega those years ago but because I was regularly diving at the time the Seamster was chosen.

I have a Rolex Submariner I bought back n 1981, worn it nearly every day since and it's now worth a lot more than I paid for it but it's been expensive to service and insure. Been very happy with it though, it's been incredibly durable and reliable.

However a friend came back from Dubai a few months back with a fake Submariner, he wouldn't tell me how much it cost but it can't have been much and I could barely tell any difference.

Personal choice but my preference is a mechanical watch rather than quartz

Several years ago I went into a fancy jewellers to look at watches. The sales assistant asked if he could help, so I said that I was looking for a new timepiece. He replied that I'd have no luck where I was looking for they were merely watches, and that the timepieces were on the other side of the shop (and several times more expensive)!

I still wear a watch and not a timepiece!

Ha ha! Just shows how little we understand time measurement terminology.

I wear a Citizen solar powered watch. No running costs!!

I bought a Swiss movement automatic diver's Ollech & Wajs about 8 years ago brand new for approx. £200, and it's been superb.

It's cheap enough not to worry about as an everyday workhorse watch, but still looks and feels great. Only tonight a guy asked me about the watch as I was queuing at the local co-op!

Currently wearing a Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster Pro Chrono, others in my collection too. At some point it may be replaced with a DeepSea (blue dial)

Me too! Have expensive omega watches but cost a fortune for battery and service. Also gone for ages. Absolutely love my Citizens (one everyday one dressy). Reliable, reasonably priced and look fine.
My boys have genuine fake Rolex watches from Kusadassi and they have been more reliable than the real things!

I wear a Garmin Fenix 3, I put my old Tissot in a drawer. Had a hard time accepting the Tissot where never exactly correct as my phone.
When camping I have a temperature sensor outside which displays in the watch.
While bathing I can also tell how cold the water is. Nice party trick :)

Sold my TAG this year and bought a Fenix 3. Great everyday watch and I love being able to navigate on roads and tracks with courses I've created on a PC.

I love watches have various from £100 to ...
Price and brand is immaterial as its what it is to you. All original, no replicas.
I do not drink or smoke so need to buy something.
I love a good watch.

How about something a bit more old school. No batteries required. Watch and compass in one. Watch function can be tricky to use in the UK though.

Every watch I have with no battery needs winding up which is huge hassle.
This is brilliant don't know why someone didn't invent it sooner. Might be challenging getting an accurate readout whilst driving at night other than that its perfect.:D

I'm not on watches. You can even say: I'm off watches. I even don't own one.
I very much don't like the feeling of something on my wrist (or even ring finger).

But if I had a watch it would probably be one of the watches from Wybe van der Gang which I find irresistible but a bit to expensive to keep it on the shelf and not wearing it.

Lovely watch. I have a much loved Cartier Tank Watch.

Too many here and more coming.
Rolex, omega, breitling my personal favourite.
My 2012 Daytona my cherished piece

I have an original Traser H3 Titanium. Light weight and very reliable. I also have a Citizen Skyhawk which is OK but rather complicated. For me simple is best haha.

Good topic! Have had various cheap quartz watches over the years starting with Casio's in the 70's and 80's, Timex's and Tissots in the 90's, Seiko and Suunto divers in the millenium and more recently an Omega Seamaster and a Raymond Weil along with three different smartwatches. Trouble with all of them has been battery replacement, rewinding, servicing and recharging. Finally have bought a Citizen Wave Satellite that has atomic clock accuracy anywhere in the world, updates its time from satellites not radio, sets it's time according to which time zone you're in automatically and is solar powered meaning never a change of battery or setting the time again anywhere. It's also beautifully made with a sapphire crystal face and lightweight stainless steel bracelet that won't weigh you down and it doesn't cost the earth. Citizen-Satellite-Wave-World-Time-GPS-F150-aBlogtoWatch-1.jpg Best watch ever.........For now. I've realized I don't need a computer on my wrist. There's one in my pocket, one in the van, one on my bike, one on the desk all of which have larger and more legible screens.

Tried one on today and now I'm hooked. Just going to have a punt round for the best price. Would prefer a High Street shop if they will price match online price. Some fairly decent discounts available as there is now a 2016 edition but fortunately I prefer the 2015 F150 which is one in your pic

My parents gave me an Omega Constellation watch on my last special birthday, which I love. Both my parents have other versions of this watch, so it's choice has more meaning than just a watch.

Sadly I have been wearing my Mum's watch since yesterday. Having had a call to rush over to help them, I forgot to put on my own watch. Then having got Mum to hospital, she asked me to keep hers for safekeeping. I have been looking at it regularly through this night as Dad and I have been up and down looking after Mum.

Thank you, Forum, for giving me a distraction...and this has been a poignant subject tonight.

Watches can be very special for many reasons.

Hi Duncan, I missed this post when on holiday so I'm coming a bit late to this party. Seems like more interest in watches than I expected. I have had Omega's in general starting with a Seamster Chronostop in 1972 I think, then a more modern Seamster 300m . I now have a De Ville chronograph, a Corum Admiral's Cup and a Seiko Ananta Spring Drive GMT. All are automatics. The latter is ,I think, the most interesting and worth googling for the technical details. It is stupidly accurate for a mechanical watch, like within a couple of seconds over 6 months ! Certainly more accurate than I need as a retired person , but I continue to be so impressed with its mechanical integrity and the 'out of the box' thinking that went in to ehe design.
