We want an oven in our California T6.1 what's the best option? Has anyone got one?

or

Have you ever seen the (Swedish) Omnia camping oven? It's very populair over here in NL (and in other countries).

It works great. We mainly use it to make bake-off rolls for breakfast when fresh bread is not readily available, but you can make entire cakes, egg recipes, but also full meals in it.

The English version of their website is here. There's entire cookbooks full of recipes just for the Omnia.

I like my Omnia. Pizza (using fresh dough), brownies, a loaf of rye sourdough, whole meals. I cook vegan mainly. I’d get the silicone insert.

You could even do this really simple DIY-hack. Add a thermometer. All you need to be able to do is drill a hole.

If you are talking about an oven shaped oven then we bought one from Aldi’s about 4 years ago. It’s very basic but it works incredibly well . Makes lovely roast chicken breasts wrapped in Bacon. Beautiful baked potatoes. even a small loaf of bread from scratch. Even nice oven chips.
Cost around £20 and they normally have then in this time of year .
This was a few years ago so you would have to allow for 2023 inflation.

Mr Ds thermal cooker OSS another option for casseroles. The idea is that you throw your meat and veggies in to the pan, boil it for five minutes and then place it in its thermal cage for 4-8 hours The residual heat cools the meat beautifully.

The only problem we had with it is that moisture cannot escape, so it can be a little watery if you don’t get the ingredients right.

Around £100

You just need to be careful of the wattage. One I was looking at yesterday was 2.8kw. Which would cause a power trip on many sites.
I suppose you may need one of those power stations to run it rather than hookup then.
I’ve seen campers with ovens installed like this, but they must have a more powerful inverter:

This is very similar to the one we bought from Aldi. the 3 knobs are for Timer, temperature and which elements you want on Top or bottom or all. They are cheap enough to throw away if anything goes wrong. But ours is about 3-4 years old and no problems at all. We even occasionally use it in the kitchen as it’s much cheaper than a conventional oven.

The tefal one is less than 1400W. Ultimately, I guess it comes down to how much stuff you want to carry and how you like to cook

Anyone using the SQ Professional in the video, instead of RidgeMonkeys ? Love the compact nature of the RMs, so much that we have 2. But I find the quality isn't great. Customer service has been good enough to replace handles that have failed, but I am sure they will fail again. The SQ looks robust, but I would worry about the size of the pan being too big for the Cali hob, so curious if anyone has used it?

Yes, it's something like that we were thinking of. You ran it when hooked u then I assume using the 3 pin plugs near the sink?

Yes, you're right we will need either a roof box or a little trailer at the rate we are buying things for our new van.

Another vote for the Omnia. We have had one for 10 years now, there is virtually nothing that you can not cook or bake in it. We keep it on our boat these days as I like to make fresh bread but I would agree it is a bit of a fiasco in the small confines of the van. Also it is quite big and space in the van is at a premium for us. Having said all that, it can provide 'proper' food without having to be plugged in to EHU or needing a massive (and heavy) extra power pack. I also like the pure simplicity of the Omnia.

We have a awning room that we cook in which helps with less clutter in the van. Yes we use the plug by the side of the sink but we have a 4 plug adapter we plug everything into but always consider not overloading the system. Everything we use as an appliance is low wattage except the 2 kw fan heater which we don’t use with anything else as its certain to trip the campsite fuse. The cooker will only work while on hookup.

Wow! A 2kw fan heater to warm your California o_O. That should keep it toasty!

What is everyone cooking in their ovens? We always cook in the van, from raw ingredients usually, and you can cook most things in a deep frying pan with a lid. I've looked at the Omnia & the Remoska, both nice, but I don't know what I'd use them for. Even bread - you can cook flatbreads in a pan. And...more 'stuff' equals less enjoyment.

Eventually I caved in and ordered a RidgeMonkey . . . when it arrived I found a defect on the coating and was really pleased to have an excuse to send it back and get a full refund.

Because all it is is an expensive frying pan with a lid. Ditto everything @ejmoore has said.

I cook pizza, pasta bakes, re-heat pasties & pies from local bakers, flatbreads and loads more that I can't think of right now ☺️.

If in doubt, have a "play" at home and cook a meal pretending you only have the limited facilities of your van. You might be pleasantly surprised just what can be accomplished.
