Just out of interest, as I love long distance road travel.

What is the furthest anyone has travelled in their California, not a round trip, but furthest from home?

I did London Bridge to Kathmandu many years ago - but not in a California.

We still have to do such long trips
With the van: The Island Giglio last autumn (South) or Bike Park Gaisskopf in the East, Ulm Germany in the North or Bern CH in the West.
Look forward to our next trip

Somewhat topically at the moment, from Edinburgh right round the Baltic as far as Vosu in Estonia, about 150k short of the Russian border. Crossed the Polish/Lithuanian border with Belarus to the east and Russian enclave of Kaliningrad to the west - only about 40 miles apart - that’s the distance between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Makes you think!
Furthest south is to Split in Croatia.

Sounds good to me. What are the Covid rules like in those countries? ie getting in etc.

Luckily, we did this trip the year before Covid struck. At the time, no border restrictions at all as all countries were within Schengen area. You would now need to check each country’s restrictions and requirements regarding Covid, prior to travelling, although events in the Ukraine would maybe impact on this trip in the near future as well.
Our plan was to go to Greece this spring, however last minute checking of restrictions will dictate what happens.

I think that Covid restrictions will be the least of anyone’s problems who is planning a trip to Eastern Europe this year. I’m hoping France and Spain are going to be ok after 2 years of cancellations.

France was fine last September/October, although there were normal restrictions such as masks in public spaces and Covid passports for restaurants, etc. Just check on government websites about up-to-date restrictions. You can register for updates on restrictions for countries via weekly alerts from the UK Government website.
