Chalked up a minor victory today in the ongoing battle with awning rattles, been fixing the various and many rattles for years now but quite proud of this one.

The entire roller was rattling in its mounting, fixed by fitting small shims, made out of the clear plastic box my sticky felt pads came in, haha gash.

It works, Not sure how long it will last, but a noticeable improvement, all quiet for now, until the next one.

You might be able to see the bits of clear plastic jammed in the roller mounting in the photo.

Does the square shaft rotate ?
I.e won't the clear plastic be dislodged by winding in / out ?

The black bit rotates as the awning winds in and out, there was a bit of play where the round black bit fits into the grey mounting and also play where the square metal bit fits in the round black bit.

Yeah the bits of plastic might fall out eventually by winding in and out, but it’s a pretty tight fit and I’ve lubed it with a bit of wd40. It seems to work ok.

The biggest win was figuring out which bit was actually rattling, which is half the battle.

Great work figuring out what the cause was.
