Damage to floor

Hi all,

After coming back from the dealers after a new wiring loom to fix our persistent airbag light problem, I found some damage on the flooring.... I think that was caused by removal of the seats. I am dealing with VWCS to take it further, but what would you recommend?

ideally, a new floor should be put in, but this would involve removing the kitchen, and I really don't want to go down that route.

I'm thinking that if I just snip off the loose bits of the hole, and then maybe plug the hole with some superglue or something similar, that would do the trick... I'm not too fussed about it looking immaculate, but a little less crap would be good. Photo attached...

What about trying to carefully heat it. Get the original material back where it came from?

I would not touch anything and insist it to be solved by VW.
Shows how unprofessional some dealers/mecanics are.

Get VW to replace it, but appreciate your worries about getting the kitchen out, it's a big job.

I would not (for the sake of a minor floor issue, annoying as it is) get them to take the kitchen out - huge risk of more damage to more visible bits.

I'd contact some of the specialist trim repairers and ask them to quote/fix it - I'm sure you will find an independent craftsman who will be able to do an invisible repair on that and match the compound etc exactly.

And then send VW the bill of course.

i would like to get VW to sort it out properly, but I agree, it would be worse to get the kitchen pulled out. It would never be the same after it went back in....

I'm not sure I'd trust the dealer to do it right to be honest after this issue.

Yes, go for an invisible mend, it is amazing what they can do nowadays. The dealer will probably have someone they use already.

Although it does occur to me I've had door cards removed in a Citroen D23 Safari, VW GTi and BMW 325 Coupe for one reason or another and the doors were never been the same afterwards even after repeated attention by the respective main dealers. So maybe leave well alone ... and go for the invisible mend.

I would get vw to try and make it look at least a bit better. Then get them to give you a full set of brandrup internal carpets then at least you could cover it up.
If they take the kitchen out to replace it it will never be the same again. Rattles and squeaks from every where, imagine the damage they could do removing the kitchen if that's what they've done with a front seat!!

Personally, I'd get VW and the dealer/garage to recognise that a full repair means a new floor and all the cupboards out and get them to take responsibility for the associated costs. (Pointing out invisible repair on a surface that gets foot traffic isn't likely to wear well over the years you hope to have the vehicle... it's not the same as a trim panel)

This will amount to well over a thousand pounds and the associated risk of more damage...

Then suggest they do something that makes you feel good about looking at the damage, saves them money and reduces the risk.

Trust me... it can work out best for all parties involved.

You can then pay the minimal amount for an invisible repair or buy a set of carpets yourself.

The floor in the Cali is naff, we have loads of scratches in the back now from taking stuff in and out of the van, it is also a nightmare to clean. Lets hope they have changed it in the T6 to something more durable.

Sorry that as happend, you must get them to sort it out, I have been in flooring trade for 40years, and yes it could be repaired but would never be invisible, get them to cut of the pulled flooring and fill in the holes, so no water gets under the damaged area, then get them to supply the mats.

Yes, the garage organised the repair. It was this company: http://www.essexsmartrepairs.com

He's done a really good job. The holes/tears have been repaired and all I need to do now is clean the floor up and it should look good... He recommended using a soft upholstery brush and then using a microfibre cloth on top to give it a buff.

I'll take a photo later & upload it...

Anyone got any cleaning tips for the floor?

Glad it's done, I would clean with a mild detergent ( flash) then put a protective liquid to make cleaning a lot easier, look at karndeans web site they do some great cleaners and finishes.
