This is my first post, so hello everyone and thank you for hosting such an incredibly useful (and entertaining) forum.
We hired a Cali last year and are now ready to take the plunge.
After extensive/obsessive scouring of past threads, we are considering two options and would love to hear your views. I realise it's all subjective/horses for courses, but expert's views always help!
1.) 2008ish pre facelift Cali, probably a 2.5. A few on Autotrader between the £26-30k mark
2.) Order a brand new (or try and get lucky with an ex demo) T6.
For option 2 we'd have to finance a good chunk more and wait until next year for the build (unless we found an ex demo). But we'd obviously have a warrantied, shiner and more fuel efficient van.
For option 1 the examples seem to be well looked after, and to have done quite a bit of their depreciation. There's more that could wrong of course, but having had several VWs and Audis with 80-120k on the clock I'm moderately relaxed about the mechanicals.
Option 3 would be to find a T5.1, but so many of them are priced at close to list it seems to be more worthwhile to pay the extra and wait for a T6.
I'm leaning towards Option 1. Are there any pre facelift owners with any tips/thoughts/things to look for? Is the 2.5TDI heavy on fuel around town?
