hi just wondering how much I should be looking to spend on a late 2003 Vw t4 California freestyle 151ps with 106000 miles, Any ideas please?
 
Have you got any pictures? 12-15k a rough guess

Depends very much on its condition, whether it’s original, number of owners and service history. The 151 is a pretty rare beast, especially in the UK so you can expect a premium because of this fact.

12-15k?.........aaaannnd wake up.
Obvs depends on condition. A good one, low £20ks, a mint one, £30k.
I paid £23.5k then spent £2k on it putting it right.

A little bit forthright, but not really rude and obnoxious.
I agree 12-15k is a little off the mark.We paid £17,800 for a 2003 Freestyle (not 151) two years ago. Having watched the market since then it is amazing how strong the market is for late T4's. So I think +/_ £25000 for a 151 is a rough guide---- If you can find one for sale!!
 
Thank you for your comments I was thinking around the mid 20s.
 
A late Westy T4 as you describe if in very good condition is hard to find these days....but I must admit I am a bit surprised to hear it's possibly worth 20 - 30K myself....T4s in my experience do not command the high (silly?) prices of the previous generations (£100,000+K for certain split bus models!!!! eek!) and are not increasing at the rate older buses seem to be....
Then again a bus is worth what people are willing to pay I suppose ...
 
PS to the above....in Germany diesel T4s (and T5s) are being scrapped at an alarming rate since the new emission regs and bans coming to lots of cities for diesel vehicles...and these are not just old battered workhorses I have recently seen a couple of really nice T4 Multivans and a lovely T5 Caravelle that have been sent to the crusher...plus if you buy a new T6 Caravelle or Multivan VW offer 10,0000 Euros scrappage for an old diesel bus...
so it may be worth looking at German for sale sites as there are some really good bargains to be had currently! Germans are getting a bit jittery about the future for Euro 4 and earlier diesel engines and getting rid ...

Mmm, living in Germany with a 98 T4 that's only just Euro 3 compliant, this is all news to me! Theres certainly no new emission regs or bans coming into force here that I'm aware of.

My nearest city is Hannover and it has a Euro 4 umwelt zone. However it is a bit of a joke, there are plenty of non compliant vehicles carrying Hannover plates within the zone itself and the fine for getting caught is a paltry 60 Euros. Whilst I don't drive in every day, I've certainly driven in a fair few times over the last three years and apart from a parking fine, nobodies batted an eyelid.

There was a case up in Federal court recently where ten cities where granted the right to start looking into banning older (Euro 5 and lower) diesels. That was all, certainly not widespread and defiantly not a change in regs just yet, it's all a storm in a teacup.

Just to keep on the topic, over 20 thousand for a late T4 sounds about right to me. They command high prices because they are so well built. I've just covered 2500 Kilometres last week driving to Britain and back, with no stress. My engine has 360,000 kilometres on it and has many years ahead of it.
 
If there was any substance to the story then I’d suspect the import market here in the UK would be booming. Nobody I’m aware of is making money importing used Westys, their price is too high to make money.
 
well all I can say is that a contact in Germany sent me pictures from 6 diff scrapyards in places like Dusseldorf with a lot of 4s and 5s many of which are (were) not really scrappers or wrecks etc and not just battered old PO or work trucks and I did some google research into German press coverage re new emission regs and implications / effects - maybe I just saw Daily Mail and The Sun type hyping going on! It's interesting to hear thoughts from other Germans on this .... and also re prices, I had not realised how much the T4 was starting to follow the pattern of rapid price rises like the older buses! I am going to have a chat with the T4 magazine guys and some T4 owners to find out more about the current UK prices of T4s now, as clearly I am not up to speed with current prices!

For what it is worth, we got £20k part exchange for our T4 Freestyle with 90k on the clock but that was in 2012 when we got our current T5. I am a bit surprised to hear that they are now getting over £20k now, but, as David said, it is what the market will bear. And it was a nice vehicle to have.
 
My friend with a lovely mint Freestyle T4 in Freisan Green is off to get it revalued with his insurer after I showed him this thread! and when I say mint it really is in all ways!;)
