The thread about the shop meet and a bacon butty has got my
mouth watering.
If i could order my last meal, i think it would be a platter of bacon butty variations.
The most historic one that i´ve had was cooked in the Cali in Pembrokeshire, the bacon was
from the farm shop at the campsite, the butty was eaten whilst watching our ferry approach
Fishguard, then it was a quick pack up and onto the ferry.
That was 11yrs ago and nothing has come close since.

My classic is 3 slices of middle back nicely crispy on 2 self cut white
slices with salted butter and a light drizzle of HP.
I've tried the brown bread but its just not the same.

What is your bacon butty like ?

Also, do they really have good bacon in Danemark cos here in
Germany its rubbish, its wafer thin streaky stuff.

White bread for me butter no ketchup. On a diet not had one since mid december

It’s all about the bread.
Either an oven bottom muffin or a classic double slice of fresh Warburtons toastie with full fat Morrison’s own butter. A bit of black pepper and some decent quality Tommy sauce.
Grand job

For me it’s how you cook the bacon. You must cook it in an oven on grease proof paper - preferably back bacon and free range with salted butter, white bread and thinly sliced mushrooms

Best Bacon Buttie has to be the one from Newlands Corner Nr Guildford uk. Toasted bun with copious amounts of well cooked almost crispy bacon. mmmmmm :pinkbanana

I have not touched bacon amongst other similar meats since I learned about the poisonous chemicals and nitrates that are added to it. I even quizzed our local butcher and all theirs was full of nasties too
Well you just might live longer but what would be the point without bacon butties?

A very occasional bacon sandwich won’t do you any harm. Best served on home made bread, butter one slice and cover the other with Hellmanns mayonnaise. Cook 5 rashers of streaky bacon in a frying pan lay on the buttered side of the bread, then cover with thinly sliced tomato and then sliced iceberg lettuce place the other slice of bread on top and cut in half (not at 45 degrees) delicious.

I would rather die a year or two early than not eat bacon. Live life to the fullest.

However, have you seen this...?
It’s pretty good, perhaps not quite as good as proper nasty bacon. But very close and enjoyable.

My sandwich has to be on a fresh bloomer from Sainsbury’s in the morning, slow grilled bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and finally reggae reggae sauce to finish.
Hmmmmm

Right, I’m off to get some bacon.

If quantity is required, at Toby Carvery you can make an unlimited number of bacon butties (for one person) for £4.69, but the bacon is soggy and the bread tastes like cotton wool.

Bacon butty has to be with an egg, soft yolk, no sauce. Mmmm

Indeed or bacon with pancakes and maple syrup, didnt think I'd like it but I sure do!

Although I had sausage and egg for breakfast today, just as lovely. :)

Isn't the point of the bacon buttie that it's impossible to resist and therefore just little bit naughty. It's not supposed to be health food.

Must be brown sauce for me as well and always best slightly salted butter with no oil of any sort added.

Surprising how many vegetarians will happily accept one if you promise you won't tell their partner.

I am with you on German streaky stuff - same here in Switzerland - imported back bacon in local "British" shops or their frozen equivalents are so full of water to be a waste of time.

So must wait for UK trip - detour via Denmark probably not worth it.

As to the bread - must be white - not too thick - not too thin (or it will not hold the lovely fat juice) - can be brown sauce but not religious about it.

Another MUST - it MUST be eaten outside - in a nippy wind - wearing a woolly hat - hand held - the whole round (no cutting it in half) - with a tin mug of tea to enjoy after it - optionally followed up by another one...

Too many harmful chemicals in Bacon and ham nowadays so it's a no from me

Well Lisa I totally accept your view point. There are too many chemicals used in much of our food and I've always prefered to eat food that is as natural as possible, produced with the minimum of human interference e.g best butter not those so called healthy alternatives. IMO disgusting muck!

However very few people eat bacon butties for every meal. I'm sixty five and still above ground having survived so far on a very varied diet including the glorious bacon butty.

Aren't you even a teensy-weensy bit tempted?

Can’t beat British or Irish bacon. Best flavour and best animal welfare standards in the world!
