Hi
Could anyone help me with a good off road terrain tyre for my California. Cheer Carl

Yes thankyou i did have a look at those on the internet last night briefly.

It depends what you are using them for. If you need a proper AT tyre, BFG’s are the answer. You’ll have to go 225/65/17 which are fine by all accounts. I’ve just been round the houses with this. The problem with BFG’s are if you don’t need such an aggressive tyre all the time, there is a noise and fuel consumption penalty. Michelin Lattitude are highly recommended on here (but no 3 peak symbol) and more accommodating on road.

Worth a look are Cooper Discoverer ATT, which you can have in 225/60/17 (103 load rating) or 225/65/17 (106 load rating). No 3 peak alpine symbol though. In the end, I’ve gone for Cooper Discoverer All Seasons in 225/65/17 (106 load rating). They should turn up today. They are similar to Michelin Cross Climates and have the 3 peak symbol which we want for Europe and should be pretty strong with their 106 rating. If we weren’t bothered by the snow rating, I’d have gone for the ATT’s.

Watch out with many of them that aren’t load rated 103 or above E.g. General Grabber AT3, Yokohama GO15. Great tyres but no good for a Cali.

Hay great info thank you, been on the net and had a look at some of the tyres you have suggested. Cheers Carl

BF Goodrich?
Hi again been intouch with a local garage today and they said that tyre isn't in the standard California wheel size? What do you think is this correct or his he trying to push the other brands. Carl

225/65/17 is the size that works with BFG’s on a Cali without any modifications. It’s not a standard size but by all accounts is fine to run on a Cali. Just make sure your insurer is OK with you fitting these tyres. My new Coopers will be this size. Insurer fine as long as load rating correct and tyres road legal. You’ll also need to change the spare and deflate it a bit to fit in the cage. Ride height will increase by 17mm and speedo will probably now be spot on.
