Devon to Windermere is a good stretch, not one police car or motorway patrol spotted them on that whole Journey? Seems strange?

Last night i spotted 3 Great Whites parked up in our town.
It really isn’t on. English Heritage have locked the main car park at the castle, but they park around the surrounding area...
One at the front of the castle and two parked at the Abbey...

It is perfectly possible that they live in their vans or have rented out their home and cannot return. The legislation makes it very clear that the lockdown rules do not apply to the homeless.

There are a lot of full-timers in motorhomes stranded , possibly over a 1,000 according to other forums. In fact our next door neighbours have their parents camping on their drive as they had to leave Spain just as it was locking down. I feel sorry for the ones that do not have friends or relatives they can rely on

They could park up in their local industrial estate as all foreign truckers used to do, especially if no one is working there at the moment.

Home is where you park it. There is no such thing as local if you’re a full timer.
They could choose to park up on an industrial estate, or in the lake district with a nice view, completely legally.
Nobody should be threatening them, whichever they choose.

Having spent a year travelling and living in our van overseas, without a home we could return to, I have every sympathy with those stuck in their vans and ignorant locals baying for their blood.

Fortunately the law is on their side. The requirement to stay at home does not apply to those without a home.

Being sparsely populated, our National Parks should be an ideal place to sit out the virus in a campervan.

Unfortunately a friend of mine messages me this afternoon. His van is packed and he’s off to Newquay tomorrow. He’s been offered some site work down there, so he’s off.

Perhaps they were chased out of Devon by more ignorant locals.

According to Devon Live it was a holidaymaker.

There are going to be all sorts moving around, selfish holidaymakers, full timers who have options to stay where they are, full timers who are quite happy to carry on wandering around, full timers looking for somewhere to hunker down.
There are a couple of full timers near to where I live (Devon) who are not getting any hassle from the locals.

As well as friendly locals there will be ones who are out of order, there will be a greater number who are alarmed by an increase in numbers caused by the arrival of vans, second homers Airbnb etc. This lot are the ones causing the problems for any full timers looking for a spot to hunker down. They should get some assistance, the rest can sod off.

Moving home, which presumably includes moving from a primary residence to a second home, is explicitly allowed in the legislation so long as it is “reasonably necessary”.

I think that is a low bar to prove. Claiming that staying in your primary residence would be likely to damage your mental health or the mental health of someone in your household, would probably suffice.

Maybe they were chased out of Devon, could I suggest Dorset, Avon, Somerset, Wiltshire all more sensible than 250 miles up the road.
One end of the country to the other is not wandering in the current climate.

Not In My Back Yard

The point is that if a van is parked up, as per post number 3, you do not know their circumstances, so leave them in peace, and let the police deal with it which they only can if they have grounds to.
Don’t create a hostile environment for people who may be doing nothing wrong, and are just trying to get through this.
Be kind to people if you don’t know their circumstances.

as for post 3 the poster commented, didn’t say they had taken any action. If vans are appearing then they are moving when they shouldn’t be. Fine they are trying to get through this, get through it by staying put it’s not hard.

There is no justification for the holidaymaker driving 200 miles.

The current legislation does not apply to the homeless, which includes full timers who are without a permanent home.

There could be many reasons why vans are moving, possibly. because of the hostile environment they are experiencing wherever they came from, or they were wrongly moved on by the police, or they wanted to, for their own protection. it Is not illegal for full timers to move around, and it is not up to locals to police ’their’ area, or make up their own rules.

Some unenlightened people genuinely see it as a bad life choice. They particularly like to focus on the negative aspects. I suspect it’s largely the same people who hate cyclists, and anybody else who is not like them.

I was reading today that the c&mc club have managed to keep some sites open just for full timing club members with additional spacing etc on site.
On the day or two after it was announced all sites were shutting they also made exceptions to provide somewhere to overnight for members with long journeys home. The c&cc - supposed friendly club, just turfed everyone out & shut the gates.
