Hi all. So we took the plunge earlier in the year, threw caution to the wind, ignored the eye-watering price tag and ordered a T6.1 California a couple of weeks before lock-down from VW vans (Liverpool). Since then there have been a number of delays and further delays in the delivery date. Apparently VW (Germany) cannot give any firm build and delivery dates. It appears that when it is built it receives a chassis number and then its progress to the dealer can be tracked. We were originally given mid-May for delivery to the dealer which included 4 weeks from issue of chassis number to delivery to the dealer. Since then we have had several revisions to the predicted delivery date, the latest being end of July / beginning of August which is perilously close to the issue of new registrations on 1st September. Apparently the time from issue of chassis number to delivery to the dealer, 8 weeks is now being quoted not the previous 4 weeks. According to the dealer VW are not giving even any rough indications of build completions or delivery to dealer. Come on VW (Germany), where is the communication with the dealer and customer service here. It can't be that difficult to work out and convey this information. You are leaving customers in limbo and causing worry. The news may not be good but at least communicate it so people can plan / cancel camp sites or even cancel the order. After all by September 1st the season is nearly over. I wondered if anyone else is having similar experiences? Kind regards, David and Helen.

Not an uncommon story, we had delays back in 2016.

Have a read of this; explains the status codes you can ask your dealer what status it's at.

As Loz said, even when everything is normal, delivery can be 10-14 weeks with little info from VW. Be patient, you are not missing out just yet. One positive would be a September "70"? registration. :thumb

I can only share my experience since placing our order 10 months ago, yes you did read that right - 10 months.

We ordered a T6 in August 2019. That order was then amended to a T6.1 - out of our hands. It was given "urgent" status and produced Week 51 (2019). However a lack of tow bars meant it sat around for nearly 2 months awaiting an option that was missing. Then Storm Ciara arrived and there was no shipping for a week or two. Then a virus thing arrived.

However you will NOT get any assistance from either the dealer or VW UK to prioritize your vehicle, however loud you might shout - believe me I have wasted days of my life over the last 10 months. VW UK are utterly passive to VW Germany, they will not even email/call Germany for answers. Are we living in 2020 or the 1960s?

Unfortunately they have a very unique vehicle. So the only thing I can offer is to chill because trying to get any assistance will just drive you nuts, or maybe that is just me!

Hi thanks for this. I can just see our hopes for the Summer and Autumn draining away. Would have been a nice ant-dote to lock down blues. All very frustrating. Maybe well get away in New Year somewhere!!

Hi yes 70 plate does sound rather good.

All good advice. Only option open is to wait and try and chill. Any other and your stress levels will increase on top of where they are already (Virus imposed).
I remember that we had some supply issues back in August 2016 with delivery February 2017. We ended up renting a Cali twice, for long weekends, to see us through "The Waiting Days" (Sounds like a movie title!). Maybe this is an option for you in say July, August, September as things start to unlock. I guess demand will be high and consequently prices. Just an idea. At least you could "cut your teeth" in readiness for when your 6.1 arrives and you would be able to hit the roads fully prepared. It certainly has the possibility of reducing stress levels too.

If it gets to a 21 reg it'll definitely have come of age.
Daren't even think about that one!

I agree thanks.

Hi, we've a new Ocean slotted for production in Week 29 (mid July), but have not had any update contrary to that, so this thread is dissapointing. I must check the status :-(

I do get a response from Live Chat, if you give them the order number they will give you the status number. Does anyone know exactly what the status numbers are and what they mean ?

They were in the first post of the link I posted at the start of this thread.
00 = Assigned to factory order no production week scheduled
10 = Factory ordered with production week scheduled
20 = Factory ordered production week confirmed
30 = In transit from factory
36 = Vehicle in port of exit – not released
38 = Vehicle in port of exit – released to shipping
39 = Vehicle on ship
40 = Vehicle arrival at UK port
60 = Dispatched to Southern Motor Group
70 = Vehicle arrived at Southern Motor Group

Hi, I'm in the same position - I ordered a new 6.1 from VW Sheffield at the end of Feb 2020, looking to get it for July. I was originally given a build week 16, which was then changed to build week 29 and last week was updated to build week 25 (TODAY!). I'm having to chase up the VW dealership to get updates( should be the other way around considering the money I am spending with them and I could cancel the order). waiting for my promised update phone call today, but am getting increasingly resigned to getting my van in October!!

I ordered from Sheffield, build week 7, duly arrived at Sheffield just on lockdown. I chased by using VW chat as I got far better response from them than the dealer. Haven't picked it up yet as awaiting parts due to a recall!!!!

Thanks - I,m not aware of VW chat - what is this?

Ah yes......the familiar tale of a new model line....Total recall!! Customer always at the wrong end of it. I would not get away with this in my line of business, not even close :- (

VW vans website has an online chat line. Went on it before but its inundated and would not let me on!

Mine should have been week 14 build and was ordered through Liverpool. Again advised with the blanket response that all pre lockdown vehicles will be completed by week 25

We placed our order end of Feb as well (Norwich dealer) had the same build week as you week 16, been told orders in lockdown period would be built by week 25, but heard nothing to confirm this either. Booked campsites (any we can at the moment) for start of August!!!

Have to say I'm a little concerned there could be further slips in delivery times. Lack of information and updates makes me think they may be sitting on bad news. Only time will tell I guess.

Mine was build week 12 - no idea when it will arrive. Wonder if dealers will honour p/x values as my mileage has increased now.

Hi, I check today after reading this, and VW have re-affirmed Build Week 29 for my Ocean; fingers crossed that all holds ! Thanks for the Chat advice, very straight forward.

Blimey week 29.... That's a big number!

I'd get on to the dealer and get a commitment before further delivery time slippage. Like being drip fed extensions!
