UK BBQ week

This is the proper grassroots one, not the one that was "taken over" by a load of brands! :bananadance2

Picnic week this week.
Who the f### makes this stuff up.
I got an email from dualit telling me its picnic week.

BBQ week watch his space New Forest will be burning again!

I'm going to sound a complete grump now.....
I do like a BBQ as much as most but somehow.....when you smell the first one of the season that our UK weather permits then the floodgates open where everyone needs to have one, I just want to squash my head in a vice at the mentality until it pops.
That was only a metaphor by the way :Iamsorry

Personally I'm out when it comes to BBQs. I like the idea just never that bothered about burnt food with the chance of salmonella :Depressed

Sounds like one of my uncles barbecues.
I was on the same path, until I discovered direct and indirect cooking methods.

Exactly what UKBBQWeek and the people behind are trying to help to solve - tips for cooking as well as the right fuels and starters and a lot lot more than burgers, sausages and drumsticks!

A friend of mine said it well "if you are buying specific food for BBQing then you are doing it wrong" he means the plastic wrapped marinaded section of the supermarket vs just a steak and veggies, roasts, everything.

Recommend Country Woodsmoke (Marcus) for help

The problem is people forget that bbqing is cooking and cooking is a mix of science and creativity. It takes knowledge, skill and experience. So people need to put the effort in If they want to be successful. It’s not rocket science!

Use an electric hotplate at home or on EHU, no mess no fuss and no salmonella.
providing you can cook.:cheers

Looks great Ely but not a moist succulent Pork Pie.
Hey Karlos, you're right but I can bbq a pretty good home made burger without leaving the garden. I tried making pork pies once and they turned out okay-ish. It was a lot of effort and looking at the ingredients nearly gave me a heart attack, never mind the calorie count! Best to leave it to the experts and stay in the dark about such things.

Skipton's a bit of a trek from East Mids but I think once stopovers are allowed we'll find somewhere to stay over and go to Stanforth's as a destination. I'm happy to queue all day for a good pork pie.

I had a look on their website and everything they sell looks so good. I think I need to start saving now in prep for our visit and make sure before we go I charge up the batteries to power the fridge and get a new coolbox for the overflow.

I've been cooking a lot out in the garden since lockdown started. As we couldn't go campervanning I put a tailgate awning in the garden. It's just the right size for the dead space in front of the garage - 2x2m and nice and tall.
It's housing most of my outdoor cooking gear apart from a stash of charcoal and wood which is in the garage, cast iron pans which I keep in the house and my Roadii fire pit/tripod thingy which is in the garden.
I like cooking over flame (any fuel but especially love free, foraged) and charcoal.
BBQ week, bring it on.

Niffany Farm campsite is a cycle ride from the farm shop you are talking about (?).

In bbq week, if you like folk music, Bromsgrove festival are presenting a Virtual folk festival. Starts Thurs 9th July and goes over the weekend. Have never been to the live festival as it clashes with Ely for us.
So camp out on the drive or in an awning in the garden, like us, fire up the bbq and discover your roots.
Even if you’re not folkie, it might be fun.
