Electricity is not my strongest …

It seems the leisure battery capacity was reduced from 2 x 105 Ah on the T6 to 2 x 75 Ah on the T6.1 - am I wrong? Does anyone know about the reason for that?

I was surprised our new T6.1 Ocean ran out of battery after only 16 hours recently. Well, we were on Corse and it was hot. But the fridge was on 4 and we only charged an iPhone and iWatch. I assume there is something wrong. But start looking into it, I found that the leisure battery capacity was reduced.

Picture after full charge (Using maxCharge function) again …

Every new model has more electric features and gadgets as the model before and then reducing battrey capacity is not a clever idea ...
Wonder what that new control panel by it self would be drawing more compared to the old control panel .

Exactly my thought … I never ran out of battery before. Even after several days off-grid with the fridge on. There might be an issue with my system, and I will get it looked at. But still, I do not get the idea (other than saving money) in terms of reducing the capacity. Maybe someone knows the thoughts behind? Will be a bit annoyed If I need to change new batteries :)

Bear in mind that it’s been blooming hot, all batteries have less capacity at higher temperatures. May explain the short running time.

There has been No Change to the Leisure Battery capacity.
T5/5.1/6 and 6.1 all have the same capacity according to the brochures 2 x 72 amp hr batteries.
So you have a fault of some sort.

Make that 75Ah batteries (2x).

And don't forget your T6.1 will only charge the leisure batteries to 80% while driving, unlike the T5 and T5.1 without bluemotion technology.

I know the batteries say 75 amps but if you check the brochures they All say 72 amp x 2 Leisure Batteries.
Maybe VW can't count. ;)

The online T6.1 brochure in DK say capacity is 150 Ah, but one from our forum tell me he has 2x105 Ah as original in his T6 but I think he must be wrong then?

Actually the T6.1 has a Max Charge funktion. I think its a booster. But with that on, you are supposed to make a full charge while driving.
I dont think Bluemotion and full charge has anything to do with each other. The T5 and T6 are only able to make a full charge while on hook-up.

There is an option for an uprated starter battery (92Ah, AGM) for the t6.1. Does this relate to the engine or the leisure battery?

This is solely a leisure battery issue …

I meant, if, as you suggest, that the t6.1 has a downgraded capacity then is the option I mentioned a way to pay for more power when ordering? There’s little info on the option though and I suspect from name it’s an engine battery upgrade to help with things like heated seats and windows.

I think that is an Engine Battery option if you need more power for colder climates …

I think so too. I don't think there are any batteries that size that would fit as they are too high/wide to fit.

I learned that batteries hate to be cold, but loves heat. As a kid, I placed my toys batteries on the heater to get the last bit out of them. But I always keep camera and drone batteries in warm when in use during winter.

At least one forum member has a solar panel attached to the lid of their roof box. There's a photo somewhere in this maze of threads.
You are right I also saw it once. And we have discussed the possibility. But again, the box is not always on. So the best solution would be a portable set of some sort.

Then why are mine (T5.1) showing 100% after driving 1000km, and a T6 only 80%? Because mine doesn't have regenarative braking. Don't know if the T5.1 with bluemotion technology only charges to 80%, but the T6 certainly does.

A 160w Lensun portable might be what you need.

I just bought one of their 100w semi-flexible panels and the quality is excellent.

Did you cut down the tree to make sure the panel worked ok? :Iamsorry

That looks good. What have you mounted yours to? And how have you run the wiring?

Hi Henrik, @California4x4 has his solar panel mounted to the top of his Thule Motion XT roof box with bolts he added to the box, so the panel can be switched between roof and roof box as needed. I will try to find his earlier posts
