Was going to wait a few more weeks but decided to order now given the price hike on Thursday. Started my search a few months ago with 40k in mind looking at conversions... someone mentioned in a fb group to look at cali's at that price but was shocked the find even at 45k I was looking at a 3-4 year old van.
Soooo I've ordered a Starlight blue Coast and added:
Rear view camera
Wood effect flooring
Privacy glass
Mud flaps
17 inch Devonport wheels

Says expected delivery 01.02.21 but was told 4-6 months. Happy with that as will be ready to go next spring. We've got 2 little girls and we can't wait to start our adventures. So excited. Would love to hear what other people have ordered ..

Congratulations! You’re going to create some amazing memories. I’ve got two young children as well and they absolutely love our camper and the adventures we’ve had so far!

Thanks Campingrookie, we diverted some of the funds from doing some work on the house to buy this van, I think the girls will remember the campervan more than a new kitchen :)

Good to hear some positive news instead doom & gloom. (Starlight Blue is the best colour, don't tell anyone else though!)

That's exactly what my sister in law said 4 years ago! They turned up in their Cali at our house, we said "what is that?", she said "my new kitchen!". You have got a new kitchen, just a very small fridge with a two ring gas burner!

Thanks Subthree, I was really undecided between ascot grey, mojav beige and starlight blue.. but I think I made the right decision ;-)

Ah, I saw a 70 plate Ocean in Ascot Grey at Woodyhyde campsite this weekend. Very, very nice.

We are hoping to have ours by April .... exciting times ...!

We are selling a T2 VW Danbury we have had since 2007 to replace a proper old T2 Westphalia.

Now a bit older just want comfort ease and reliability.

So selling this and a car .... so wanting a Cali next spring. Missed out on others as they sell so fast and second hand prices so high. So I contacted dealers and one had a demo Coast coming in and available next April

So we struck a deal
Coast but with 17” wheels
Opening front to pop top
Tow bar ready
Reverse camera

For me the Coast is fine and indeed prefer non electric roof
The Coast is some £8k less and then also being ex Demonstrator lowers it ...and there is now a£2k upping in price from October which we have avoided.

This one is Pearl Black . Which I was unsure about but does look cool ... I suspect I will have to keep it clean! I may need dark glasses and to assume an Italian Accent!

Congratulations.. having 2 young girls (+ a older son) myself, i know your girls will love it.. nearly sold mine recently but 2 upset girls made me have a change of heart!

One suggestion.. omit the Devonports from the order and buy some brand new ones on ebay. That’s what I did with my first Beach.

New Devonports on eBay are normally around £600.
I then Sold my 16” Claytons for around £400 meaning the 17” wheel upgrade cost me circa £200.

Put the saved cash towards something that you can’t add later!

Just looking at the pricelist, I would definitely add the Panoramic front Opening roof canvas.. I would of loved opening that up and looking at the view..
Is the Coast canvas roof like the Beach with only 2 side windows?

Yes it is, but there is now a £270 option on MY21 models to upgrade to the Ocean panoramic one

Nice ! You were lucky to get an ex demo, we couldn't even test drive a Coast, in fact our nearest dealer didn't have any Cali's in stock at all. We test drove an ocean a bit further away.

Thank you, I did read about the wheels and it's a good saving, I just couldn't face the hassle of it with working full time, 2 young children and now I'm £400 poorer

We considered this option and although nice to have we decided it wasn't for us.. I gave very careful thought to to every single optional extra, this one I considered that our young girls would be in the pop top who won't be bothered and if I did lie up there where would I put my wine??? ;-)

Fully understand that it’s not always about the money other factors can be more prevalent in decision making.
Great suggestion & saving for anyone who has the time or is able to swap & fit the wheels themselves.

Congratulations! What memories you are about to create in your new kitchen on wheels! Mine was an expensive dog kennel on wheels, and the dogs would chase around the house over excited every time they saw me packing...

That's a very good tip. I've done that myself a couple of times. There's always lots of sets for sale on Ebay, many with just delivery miles and those are the ones to go for. However most Ebay Devonports usually come with 215 tyres. Most of these sets come from commercial vans where ride comfort isn't as important. From personal experience it's best to look for a set of delivery miles Devonports with 235 tyres. The difference in ride quality is substantial. The 215s are ok in a fully loaded van but rather harsh and crashy in a lightly loaded camper. I believe one reason is that they require a higher working pressure.

Good luck with the new van. You've made a great decision and your girls will adour their new mobile wendy house.
