Hi guys,
I’m looking for any recommendations for campsites in the North of England that are within walking distance of a good pub!

We’ve been doing some one night breaks in the van, set up, go to a pub for a nice lunch, then back to van in the evening.

Our recommendations:

Ripley Caravan Park - Boar’s Head
Mason’s Campsite (Appletreewick) - Red Lion, Craven Arms
Harrogate Caravan Park - Traveller’s Rest
Oakmere Caravan Park - Drover’s Arms

How about doing a pub stopover. You can’t “camp” as all you get is a parking space and free stopover if you use the pub (unless you’re a member of Britstops, then the deal is you can stay and don’t have to use the place, but most do, farm shops and other businesses too).

We usually arrive at a pub around lunchtime and go for a walk. Then have dinner in the evening. Get our heads down and find somewhere for breakfast. Go for another walk and return to the pub for lunch, afternoon drink/snack or dinner again before coming home. Always get home feeling really chilled and like we’ve had a weeks holiday.

If you like to camp/pitch, put the awning, chairs, etc out this won’t be for you. Some pubs have overnight loos, EHU, showers etc that may cost and some have their own camping fields.

The best places are in rural locations away from busy roads.

Eskdale Campsite (run by National Trust) and two pubs within fine minutes walk. I though the Boot Inn was the best

Great langdale campsite
In the sticks stunning views and 3 pubs all with good grub gets super dark at night so the stars are amazing
Where is the 3rd ? only know two, one left out the campsite the other right

Royal Oak Sparklow in tbe Peaks.
Pub restaurant very popular so book.

I went to the Tan Hill pub a few weeks ago, cracking pub and you can stay in the carpark for a small fee with showers and a toilet for the campers.

Tatham Bridge Inn between Wray and Wennington at the northern extent of Lancashire has its own campsite across the road from the pub. Good pub food. Loo is in the pub, so only available when pub is open, so own facilities needed. Handy location for Yorkshire Dales and Lakes also

Our local has a campsite which we’ve not used as we can walk home . The campsite is basic, but looks fine. Food is good. They are limiting when food served due to the lurgy, so check that pub open before booking campsite. Rural, but 5min from A1M. I’ll get website link etc and post it on here.

Don’t be tempted to add .uk. Just use the link as is.

So, in 1976 when we were weekend hippies :) I had a T2 van into which I installed the essentials :- mattress, cooker, sink. We spent a couple of nights in the van camped by the Saracens Head pub Symonds Yat. Was thinking of taking a trip down memory lane when we take delivery of our new t6.1 Ocean. Anybody camped there recently? How was it?3D62403E-EE4D-4E16-B0A3-7F14E19C64B8.jpeg

Agree. Great site. Boot inn has fires burning so very handy in the wet. Lovely little water mill “museum” up the road. If you chose the field to camp, it can be very muddy, but there is a guy with a V8 discovery to tow you out in the mornings.

Fabulous photo -- is that the last time you had a campervan or have you had them in between?

Not had one in between, was too busy on the corporate treadmill. Hired a great white in New Zealand though :)

And those super-cool flares  Did the young lady in the Laura Ashley turn out to be Mrs Grumpy?
