What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Hi

Which rubber mats are those?

And do you get much rubber smll from them?

Thank you
Have these in my van, had dealer supply as wanted VW ones. Cant say I noticed any toxic smell coming from them, after 4 months wearing well and does the job.

Ours (identical to the photo) come from the dealer, so from Volkswagen itself. It's the 3 piece set. They don't smell like rubber at all.

All these models seem very similar, difficult to make a choice.
However the Diamant SG2 PLUS seems to be cheaper. It can be found for €400 here. Perhaps the best choice.

I have the Atera Genio Pro, takes 2 EMTB easy, I have the extension to put a road bike on if needed on longer trips away. I can recommend the rack, well built and very easy to use.

Having cleaned the van inside today to get ready for the new season, I decided to make some changes, hence I have ordered:

Rear seat USB charge points - using the hidden 12v alongside the rear Cali seats and this right angle cable adapter (the only right angle one I could find), it provides 4 sockets and a readout to tell you battery voltage. Tight fit but this one looks like it will do the job. https://amzn.to/3Z51sTU this will be way tidier than my current solution shown in the pic.

USB rechargeable decent vacuum - A Scotland trip soon with two dogs and a wife means I decided to get a van vac. After research, this looks perfect.. wine bottle size and great reviews... https://amzn.to/3Z15Gvt

I also removed the Cali chairs and replaced them with these much more compact and much more comfortable versions (https://amzn.to/3KMBxu0 and https://amzn.to/3CWtUzc - avoid cheaper copies). This means that the tailgate storage is now spare - on one side I have put my windshield cover and side door mosquito net. On the other I can perfectly fit both my pop up toilet tent (https://amzn.to/3QyBB31 - which does not need pegging as I shove it under the tailgate, meaning that the shower also reaches) AND my collapsible toilet. (https://amzn.to/3wYzK06) .

With 200w of solar from the excellent www.solarcampersolutions.co.uk I am ready for the end of the world (hmm, must order a zombie club).

Everything will be reviewed on our channel in the coming months. Interior styling almost finished finally..

Oh dear, the 12v adapter won't get in the small space the way it needs to, so I have tidied up and reverted to the multi usb fixed to the pillar as seen in the picture.

Cali’s & dogs go together, especially Beagles
Not my California!

Yesterday we had visitors, my wife let them in. We live opposite the seaside. They brought their dog in without a thought ( I was shocked when I heard). Took her an hour and a half to clean up including all the sand.

Cannot imagine what these doggy Californias smell like.

Also people used to have one dog now they seem to have two or more. Why? What is the point of ‘pet’ dogs anyway? As I say we live by the seaside and watch a constant trail of dog walkers. The owners mainly look downtrodden by the need to take their dogs out from their (unnatural) centrally heated homes at odd hours. The dogs spend 90%, of their time doing nothing. Their life must be pretty sad, frankly. They seem principally there so their owners can boss them about.

Now beagles in a pack for hunting, dogs for shooting, sheepdogs in the field, wonderful. And dogs for the blind 100% obviously good. Even guard dogs make perfect sense to me.

But dog ownership seems to have got completely out of hand. Most but not all pick up the excretion, but not the urine of course. My front wall is regularly bleached but they won’t be stopped.

All this before you get onto vets’ bills.

I have a feeling the above may not be universally popular, but I am tired of finding smelly dog excretion on my walking boots and really do think dog ownership has got completely mad.

It's all down to "big vet" since the uptake of the motor vehicle they could no lonoger work on horses and had to promote dogs

One of my builders had an elderly refuge basset hound for a year or so and spent £13,000 on it before it passed away. He would not hear of putting it down; as he scoffed his meat sandwiches.

I just do not understand, as you say big vet.

We’ve had the Diamant sg2 plus for about a year. Can’t fault it. Seems well made and it’s easy to use. We got the additional ramp for wheeling the bikes onto the rack rather than lifting them, which works a treat. It (the rack) folds up and lives in its provided cover under the back shelf in the boot, leaving space for plenty of other stuff. It is limited to two bikes.

Treated “Chloe” to a stage 1 machine polish, wax and interior detail courtesy of my local chap NDK Detailing to celebrate Chloe’s one year anniversary with us. Hard to believe it’s been 12months and 10k miles already.

Comes up beautifully for a MY18, 20k miles van. :)

We’ve got the same floor mats from our dealer, and they’ve never been out of the van ! You might find 3 rubber step mats also useful.. We improvised with some bits of carpet to start with, then bought the real things - stops you scratching the plastic.

Ours are the same, VW branded. No smell here. If you do gets floor mats that smell heavily of rubber, there’s a good chance the rubber compound is not stabilised. The smell is caused by fumes given off, and this can bleach you carpet, turn it a nice shade of yellow!

We have the SG2 plus and are very happy. It was the cheaper option but feels sturdy enough.
