Even though my newly acquired vw cali 2008 is connected to the mains I have no power at the cabin. Any ideas?

Have you checked the circuit breaker in the lower rear cupboard (in the section above the gas bottle)?

Yes, I tried it in all positions red and green. However the button to trip it does not work.
Significant?

The circuit breaker also acts as residual current device (earth leakage protection). It should trip when pushing the button. Maybe the circuit breaker is defective. Does the display above the rear view mirror show that the mains is connected (icon of a plug)?

thanks for your help. I’ll check that tomorrow!

Firstly, I would remove the Postcode you have on your Avatar.

Next, No Power in the vehicle.
I presume when plugged into EHU mains the mains socket on the end of the kitchen has no power and the circuit breaker does not react to the Test button.
You need a Multimeter.
Is the household mains socket working?
Use the multimeter to check that the Mains EHU lead is working?
If both those tests are OK, you need to check that you have Mains voltage to the RCD circuit breaker. This will test the integrity of the Mains EHU socket on the vehicle.

One Forum member, with a California of a similar age, had corrosion of the Vehicle EHU socket such that a connection could not be made. The socket was changed and problem sorted.

Also worth checking your cable - obvious point but I have had the issue on site where I had no power and after 20 minutes of faultfinding and one electric shock later I worked out the cable plug connections were loose.

The overhead control unit shows the supply is on when plugged, but the circuit breaker does not work.
The leisure batteries are charged. But there in supply to the plug behind the passenger seat.

This is the circuit diagram for the 230v Mains supply.
You will need to check the wiring to the Kitchen unit MainsSocket as it appears you have power going via the RCD circuit breaker to the Mains powered Charger for the Leisure Battery.

That circuit breaker can look like its on but actually be failed . If it doesn't trip when pressed I'm suspecting that's your issue. You could wire it out to prove the fault. They aren't dear to replace

FYI, the test button only works when the electrical system is live ie hook up plugged in.
