Which electric car to buy?

If I am doing so how many others are as well?
I suppose I get some interest, including lessons in the human condition, from combative exchanges.
Sometimes my thumb naturally moves to the ‘New Posts’ button, other times I want to try and understand why someone is hanging on to a tenuous argument or whatever.
I’m often rewarded with tips on spotting the signs of personality traits, or in this case a new word - tendentious.
I got a lot more than I bargained for when I signed up as a member of this great forum!
It is a shame when people get harassed to leave though… I thought we might have lost you at one point Borris too. So glad you’re still here. I’ll always pause to read your contributions.

The OP asked the question nearly two years ago. They announced eighteen months later that they had bought an ID3, so I think we can consider their question answered.
Nearly ready to buy a new one then as that one is nearly obselete....;)

Thanks for your kind words.

I can assure you that I am neither harassed nor an ex member, just a little tired of threads being turned toxic for what seems to me like personal point scoring reasons. But that's just me.

IMO, the Forum, great as it is, is primarily a vehicle to discuss our mutual interest in VW Californias. All the other stuff is also fine and dandy, even if often, not entirely relevant. However, it's the all too regular verbal dust ups that I find both tedious and unnecessary.

GenuinelyI think that there is a great post grad thesis available here. Depending on the profile of users, popularity of forum and thread titles what is the maximum number of useful posts it is likely to have. Create a Forum formula that calculates exactly how many posts can be added to a thread before it goes off topic.

If we had it we could limit contributions, that would then make for a great searchable resource.

As it stands. 1k+ posts make it worthless to read through

Selling something? 10 posts only
Wanting a fix for something broken? 20 posts
Photo albums 50 posts?
General chatter 100 posts
Brexit - 0 posts before someone gets all militant, usually me. :)

In the old days of Usenet Godwin’s Law stated, “as an online discussion grows longer (regardless of topic or scope), the probability of a comparison to Nazis or Adolf Hitler approaches 100%.”

That rarely happens in this forum, though there have been regular comparisons to Trump and Putin which is similar.

Usenet tradition was that whoever mentioned Hitler or the Nazis first (or by my extension, Trump or Putin) automatically loses the argument.

It won't be pretty. Insert IDBuzz for Tesla.
Same thing happened last night in Cardiff albeit under different circumstances.

There are bellends in every town, who feel the need to set alight to cars to boost their number of internet clicks.

Shouldn’t be encouraged as not great for the environment and wastes police / fire service time.

Better yet, just rip out the battery and install peddles.

It appears that the rioting in Cardiff started after two teenagers riding an ebike illegally died after being pursued by the police, and the dying teens’ parents were refused through the police cordon to see their children.

I don’t know if the police were trying to cover up any wrongdoing, but the denial of a pursuit (contrary to video evidence) and denying the parents’ access to the scene does whiff of something fishy.

In the CCTV clip I saw it looked like the boys were 2 up on a small moped/scrambler. Could have been a tactical contact situation that went wrong.

It could equally be that the boys panicked after seeing the police car behind them, but the police car driver was on a completely unrelated mission and wasn’t in pursuit at all.

What does seem wrong is that the police wouldn’t allow the parents through their cordon to see their dying sons.

I was in the close locality when Jake Fahri (who I knew well) butchered Jimmy Mizzen in a bakery. I saw Mrs Mizzen arrive at the scene, and I watched as pale faced she was escorted by an inspector to the scene of her son’s murder. It is not something I can unsee.

It was announced yesterday that Fahri has been granted parole.

The first line of this article refers to the Centre of Policy studies think tank. A far right, secretly funded (big corporation) think tank. The Tufton Street mob that gave us Liz Truss and hard Brexit

I couldn’t give a rat’s ass what they think, they don’t care about people.

Yes the CPS is almost laughably non-transparent about its funding but however the Torygraph wrote up the study (no idea as it's paywalled), the report is actually a pretty good one, IMO from a quick skim.

It accepts the dual imperatives of improving air quality and decarbonisation, and accepts that EVs are the way to achieve that in transport. It also (maybe surprisingly for a right-wing think tank) sees it as essential to somehow replace the government's current £25bn a year from fuel duties. Its proposal is to introduce a pay-per-mile tax system on EVs but, initially at least, at a lower average 'take' than that levied on ICEs (through VED+fuel duties).

So, hardly EV bashing. The devil will of course be in the detail.

It is an interesting situation road funding will have to evolve.

I’m just fed up to the back teeth with government sponsored newspapers with client journalists starting the British conversations everyday. They are the worst aspect of our great country!

Maybe the police were trying to do the parents a favour. I don’t know the in’s and out’s of it all, but my guess, it wasn’t a nice seen for any parent to witness…

Oh and the 110kW plus battery its gonna need to get any sort of useful range.

Yes, they maybe thought they were doing the right thing. But denying a parent access to their dead or dying child can’t be the right thing.

Now I'm interested in an EV. Soon get to the front of the charging queue.

Combat logistics just got harder. Imagine trying to find a working charging station on your way to the front line

Yeah but even faster heating of your BV.

(A BV or Boiling Vessel is a 24v water heater fitted to British military vehicles since the 1950s and much admired by other militaries. In a dank German winter woodland there was nothing better than popping the BV on as you scrimmed up and then enjoying a piping hot Bachelors Cuppa Soup with a sprinkle of paprika powder while the Americans were f***ing around with their self-heating MREs).

How long does a military 24v kettle take to boil?

My 12v kettle takes about 30 minutes to boil 750ml.
