I’ve encountered an interesting phenomenon that even my car dealer has no explanation for: Every time I start my California’s engine and drive off, the rear heater is in manual mode. I switch it to automatic and then return the controls to the front (turning off the ‘Rear’ indicator LED). However, the next time I start the engine, the rear control is back in manual mode, while the front control remains in automatic mode without any issues. Any idea why the rear doesn’t retain the automatic setting?

Hi John. Researching the same issue. And sadly I can’t offer any solution. I have seen various similar threads. It is a blinking nuisance and I’ll keep trying alternative fixes and let you know if I have any success. John.

Hi, you've probably got a sticky button on the rear control. I get this to every now and again. On mine the fan speed in the rear goes to max. I had the rear unit replaced under warranty, but it cropped up again with the new one. Suggest a bit of wiggling of the rear control unit to free it up (a bit), if it's anything like mine it gets almost no use and is stiff, sometimes (I'm guessing temperature-related) the mechanism seems to get stuck.
