Software Update

I dont think u can compare the old vw with later years. Full of software and sensors. I rather drive a modern vw than one from the 80s....

True, but many other brands manage to perfect the tech before selling at substantial prices to the public and then replying on recalls and updates which in some cases can't even be delivered over the air! if other brands can do this, why not VW?

Or they refuse to acknowledge the 03S bellows have a major design defect and reject a legit warranty claim even with multiple video's as evidence.

i got the same problem as you ...just had the 27T7 update but still no charging from external 240V...its back at the dealer again!....and mines a diesel as well...so the update looks duff!..ill ring them tomorrow...they are waiting on Germany.
funny thing is the van worked fine for the first 4 weeks!
Ok …the update done again a few days back …van worked perfectly (diesel) for another 4 days ..all external charging working ….until this morning …external power not available …external power still plugged in warning when it isn’t snd 5.0v showing on leisure batteries when they were both tested at 23.5v….the update worked for 4 days!

I think you're totally right regarding over air updates. Should be easier but I guess they always will be a car maker and not focus on the software.

I think you will find that OTA updates are done for the Base vehicle and Infotainment via the built in eSIM used for the SOS system, as on All VW commercial and non-commercial vehicles.
However the Camping/Habitation electronics/software have no connection to that system, hence software updates are done manually via the Dealer.

I'm sure you're quite correct, @WelshGas (as usual : - )), but my point is if for example my Model Y Tesla can have a 'camp mode' and update this over-the-air, then why can't VW with their massive camper heritage and huge wealth of experience in all things camping related, also have this ability?

I suppose because the California has the Leisure Batteries , EHU charger/Mains circuit, Fridge, Hydraulic roof and Parking Heater on a separate system and its not thought viable, in common with all the other Manufacturers/Converters who sell new Motorhomes/Campervans.
This is probably a one off software patch/upgrade on a new vehicle never to be repeated once they have it right whereas Infotainment and Base vehicle specific updates can evolve or require data updates overtime.
Somehow I don't think the Tesla Camping mode covers as much as the Californias does.
