That is an interesting problem. The correct way to repair, as I understand it from other posts, if you search (a VIP member search is best) is to remove the fridge, a big job. An alternative approach is to create a new ‘keep’ by fixing a bar across where yours is broken and one member has posted that fix.Hi I’ve got a new van and the clip on the cupboard under the cooker is broken and I need to replace it with the new part. It’s screwed in behind the screen and there is no obvious way of getting to the screws. Any ideas? Thanks View attachment 139659View attachment 139660
I just worry that prising it off in one go may prove problematic, though I could be wrong it might come out easily - but I doubt it. Hence my suggestion of a small core drill over the two fixings locations first, to isolate most of the keep from its fixings with removal of the fixings after.Think I would after reading that the fridge removal is needed. I would gently try to prise off the old one, then glue the new one in situ.
@Tom D. , the OP wants to replaced the keep in the frame, not the catch in the door which you correctly say just needs a torx screwdriver. When using a torx screwdiver you can unscrew it easily. Just try to feel where the screws are and if neccesary put your head a bit in the cupboard. It is really not very difficult.
The problem with araldite is if the keeps breaks and needs replacing again you are in trouble, whilst with silicone or another soft adhesive (CT1 for example) you could prise out and replace.I’ve got exactly the same issue so watching with interest as I also do not want to remove the fridge etc. I think a fix with something like araldite would work but worry about breaking or scratching something removing the old part. Someone posted a skilled fix where they riveted in a new keep bar to replace the broken piece which does the job but looks a bit … err…. Industrial!
