Hi All,

I feel I'm making progress deciding on security for the soon-to-arrive 2014 Cali SE 140. Thanks again for your contributions.

Re: IMMOBILISER and/or TRACKER, I have spoken to a number of insurers and am leaning towards the purchase of a "Smartrack iMOB S5 plus Tracker" from Trackershop UK.

This can recognise the legitimate driver; uses App and Fob System; is based on the "no tag - no start" immobilisation; combats relay and key cloning thefts.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge that might encourage or discourage this purchase? Or is there anything within the Cali that renders it incompatible
or superfluous?

Next, and here's the slippery slope, "as you're already communicating via your mobile phone" they suggest (while you're going about it) why not install a DASH CAM? I've noticed a number of club members have them. Any practical suggestions here? Ones to court, ones to avoid?

Sliding further, I might enjoy a REVERSING CAMERA for the convenience of parking up and avoidance of damage. I have a Mondeo estate at the moment and I am pretty awful at gauging the distance to Armco barriers. Or is it time for a slap on the cheek and rein it in a bit  ?

TIA
Steve

The immobiliser plus tracker is what we went for, a different make (Scorpion), but otherwise the same concept and S5. We chose Scorpion as at the time we were able to buy a lifetime subscription, which pays for itself by next year. As you say, it reduces the chances of theft, but as the ignition on anything lower than a 7 is a manual key, it’s already quite good.

For dashcam we chose Blackvue front and rear, after reading reviews, and the cameras are neat.

Hi, ive been looking at the trackers and thinking the Scorpion S5+ but not sure it really needs the added immobiliser. You think its worth it even although the Cali comes fitted it’s one?

Hi Steve
Ive got a reverse camera and think it’s invaluable at times. I know a lot say its easy parking the van but for me it just gives that extra confidence when parking, especially at night.

A couple of benefits we thought about. First, you have a fob (or an app on your phone) in addition to the key to start the engine. Keep the fob on say your house keys, then if your key gets pinched, it won’t start. Second, if the van is stolen, it can be immobilised remotely (the Police are involved and it only is immobilised once it’s stopped).

We have a reversing camera and wouldn’t be without one. It aids parallel parking in a tight space, and good to ensure you leave enough space to open the hatch boot when you want access.
