12v socket in kitchen not working

Hi,

the 12v socket next to my 240v socket stopped working a few months back after many years of use. I check with a voltmeter and nothing. Nada. All the other electrics are working fine, including the 240v socket and the other 12v sockets in the mid section and rear. There are no signs of any damage to the wires or connection pins. Any ideas what I should do to diagnose and fix the issue?

(PS - once I get some juice back to the socket I plan to replace the Hella socket with a USB socket which I think will be easy as it is a standard c-line socket)

You say you checked with a voltmeter , that is in the socket or on the wires....?
Could be the socket is worn or broken .
Don't know exactly if that socket has a seperate fuse , did you check all fuses ?

I checked on the wires. I haven't checked the fuses. I inferred from another thread wiring diagram is not available. Where would the fuses be? Under the seat with the leisure battery?

Normally a 15 amp fuse under the passenger seat. Turn seat through 90o and slide towards kitchen for better access.

I'll take a look in the daylight tomorrow thanks. Hopefully I don't have to take the seat off...

Also I am LHD so for me its the driver seat hehehe

@Loz full set of T6 fuse locations.
NB their position can “roam” about the fuse box but colour is a good starter to finding the correct fuse!!!!

Remember some USB sockets are On continuously and will consume power even if nothing is plugged in, so get a switched one.

Main issue for laptop charging will be 36 watt limit from charger. The usbC PD standard can support up to 100watt of power delivery via laptop manufacture approved cable, so the charge time of this device would be around 2.75 times longer compared to the laptops mains charger running off inverter socket (in T6 and below some laptop chargers may trip the inverter safety system as the inverter is rated only to 150 watts).

In addition, some chargers may not cope with the “quality” ( Not pure sine wave 240v ac ) of the output from the inverter socket

However laptop charging this route is a very inefficient method (but uses original equipment supplied with laptop)

For laptop use a dedicated 12v charger suitable for your laptop and plugging in to the original 12v socket would deliver 85 to 90watts, more than halving the charge time for a laptop compared to UsbC PD in this unit.

Useful guide and for the options this gives for phone and similar device charging, voltage display, on off switch has many positives.

Yeah. I'm hoping it will work as a backup option for my MacBook Air, which uses a 30W power supply. Will report as soon as I've had a chance to test it.

I have a same problem lik you with the 12v socket roof and kitchen.
Fuses are ok, 12v on fuse and no 12 v on socket.
Probably broken wires in some where…
Did you solve your problem?

Hey Amigo. If you read my post https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/12v-socket-in-kitchen-not-working.37332/post-463926 you'll see that it was the fuse that had gone. I have some dim memory that wasnt the fuse I expected ... but yeah eventually I found it and replaced it and everything worked.
