2023 updates

I rammed up the M6 one stormy night in November. Felt like the cross winds and draught from trucks were ironed out by the cross wind assist, which should require some noticeable opposite steer in a
van
In our T6.1the wind-assist automatically applies the brakes and slows the vehicle down. We noticed this during some crosswinds driving on the ACC. We didn't notice any automatic steering, but we have de-activated lane-assist. Not sure if that also deactivates steering in wind-assist mode..

Looking at it there seems to still be a lot of pack codes on the configurator being shown rather than the option names. I'd give the system a few days to filter through before taken any of it as gospel. The new oak cupboards are awful but love the new bottom two tones - not convinced with a silver upper though…
Where are you seeing about the “new oak cupboards” please? I’ve been reading the Caliboard.de post and someone there also refers to ‘kitchen different decor”.

I’ve looked at the Ocean configurator and today it says ‘Cupboards in "Graphite Grey"’ under the standard equipment. I know not everyone is a fan of the grey, but I quite like it. Our van is due to be built week 35 / 29th August, so keen to work out what may turn up.

I love the grey. Personally not a fan of the Oak but that’s just preference. It was an option on the glitchy configurator. Maybe ironed out now and was actually a EU option rather than UK?

Thanks :thumb Fingers crossed it was a glitch. The photos still very much show grey, but I know that’s no guarantee of anything.

Just checked and it’s still an option if you’re ordering a new van from now and delivery next year. Not relevant to existing pipeline orders. If you ordered grey you get grey, I think we have had this conversation before ;)

Thanks for double checking, not sure how I missed that as it’s pretty clear! I blame the heat

CACC26AF-69B7-4D3F-91CF-D0D01EE9BF95.jpegBeige? You got beige as a colour? Oh wait, you all mean ascot grey.. ;) I know, some of you don’t like the colour; I personally like every colour or colour combo (although we turned a cherry red one down for not being ‘my colour’ / wrong delivery) but I prefer the ascot grey. Even this evening people praised the colour, in fact no one has yet commented negatively on the colour and many spontaneously give positive comments about it. I don't come across much of it though and I don't mind this because ours remains a bit exclusive with its free colour.
Look at it: isn’t that a lovely colour? :D

The “beige” is actually a great colour and looks amazing in person - which never really comes across in photos or in the brochure.

I agree, I saw it before ordering and really wanted that colour. It's not to brag, but we have already received a lot of spontaneous positive comments. I choose it because for me it gives me a kinda retro look and reminds me of the vw company cars my father drove with many many years ago: they were also this mouse grey (I don’t see beige in it but maybe that’s only me).

I love the Ascot Grey colour & wonder why people dont go for the awning in Silver with it, from memory isnt the silver more of a beige colour on the awning?

Wish there was more to get excited about in these yearly releases.

Having owned 2008, 2014, 2018 & 2022 Californias can’t help thinking that the T6 or even the early T5’s are the sweet spot in terms of price / features.

The kitchens are improved in the T6.1 with the new catches etc. but not sure the improvements are worth the premium.

I know there’s not much VW can do using the platform they have, but this van has essentially been around since 2003. Feels like the T7 / Electric or whatever comes next can’t come quick enough.

The driving experience and cabin are clearly better but having been driving an electric car for a while unfortunately just feels that VW are rehashing this chassis over and over with features like digital dashboard which whilst look good at first don’t really offer a step-change improvement.

Probably should have started a different thread on this but just my honest thoughts.

Well if we all cancelled our orders I'm sure VW would oblige. They are profit motivated and if the Golden Goose keeps laying eggs what is the incentive to reinvent things. EV or at least the charging infrastructure is still not ready for primetime (especially in Europe, which is my primary focus). Given enough time I hope they skip EV and go straight to H2.

This has got me intrigued:
1. Sliding window with fly screen in passenger compartment, left.
2. Sliding window with fly screen in passenger compartment, right.
3. Sliding window in front and fixed window in rear in load/passenger compartment on driver side.

All 3 are options on the beach but 1&2 are standard on the Ocean with 3 being a further £240 option.I I cant see what it would be unless its a further slider behind the C pillar?

I didn't order the flyscreens from VW as i assumed they were still the woefully bad plastic insert things I got with my 2019 cali - and they are €70+ each! I can't understand why they wouldn't make a better camping window system with rain+mosquito proof opening windows, like they have in every other camper van and caravan in the universe.
