Thought it might be nice to have a thread running for ‘25 plans to inspire each other, share amazing places and make recommendations if someone’s going somewhere you’ve been to before.

I’ll kick off,

We’ve got a couple of trips booked so far
Ghent in March for a weekend - not been before so any suggestions welcome!!

Ypres in April with my son and his best buddy to do some Ww1 stuff. Been before so have a good idea of what we’re doing.

In both cases we’re staying in Urban Gardens which look ideal for a city break.

Later in the year, not sure yet but would like 7-10 days in France somewhere.

I have booked the channel tunnel for 2 weeks in June. Probably just a few places in France but haven’t planned it yet.
Western Isles later this year. Arran for a long weekend now they have better ferry service!

Main trips, in no particular order, from Northumberland:
  • West coast of Scotland
  • Western Isles
  • Orkneys and / or Shetland (to be discussed)
  • (Austrian) Alps via NL, France, Germany
  • Deershed Festival
  • Cumbria
Went for 3 weeks to Orkney. What a great place

There's a lot to see and do. Certainly you'd need a couple of weeks to sample the diverse range of islands taking ferry times into account and without feeling rushed. The outer islands are worth the effort. Some of the outer island ferries have limited capacity and book up well in advance, so a bit of pre-planning is important.

Good advice. I went to Hoy, Sanday and Westray, in addition to the main island, All had a different feel and a different character

Going in May for 2 weeks, LeShuttle to France, make way down to Switzerland (Jungfrau) then into Germany heading back north to France then back home.

A word about Ghent. Lovely city.
We have stayed at Urban Gardens (Blaesmarsen) several times, and in September this year it was awful. Lots of loos were roped off and much of the site was waterlogged, with pallets dotted about to use as door steps.
I hope it is better for your visit.

Normandy in April, Netherlands slow circuit in June, Northumberland N250 in July, Moselle Valley in September.

Nc500 best bits and Islands May
Switzerland and German Romantic Road July

September France or Scandinavia?

Anglesey in June.

Switzerland in July/August (any recommendations for things to do and places to start welcome).

Possibly trip to Assisi in September.
